Barga is quiet, not heaving with tourists, and everyone we met was friendly and helpful.it’s a lovely hill top town. We did a couple of their recommended walks…not easy walking. Tourist info office not open Monday through Wednesday, try the travel agency accross the road from The Alpino. The most favourite place that I have visited in all the world and I would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to visit Tuscanyt. Barga Veccia ,has a stunning Cathedral, an Opera house, many fabulous restuarants and throughout the town there are many art galleries and individual shops to explore. There is also a swimming pool open during the summer months. Do not miss going to Casa de Vino for wine tasting and picnic. It is also easy to travel from there to Lucca, Viaregio Castelnouvo and you can even visit Florence from here for the day. Barga is a beautiful old town with some stunning scenery.
Barga is a beautiful old town with some stunning scenery. There are plenty of bars and restaurants and a market once a week - recommended. If travelling by train, allow plenty of extra time in case of line changes - the cost of train travel is low but remember to validate your ticket on the station platform before boarding. The apartment is gorgeous and had absolutely everything we needed for a family holiday, it was very easy for us all to enjoy our time here. Maraica was super welcoming and friendly, and very kindly (and quickly) helped us see the local doctor with one of the kids.
