it was super clean and located right in the heart of the city! It was super quiet at night and we were able to sleep very well. The entrance is easy to access, someone from reception always opens the door and we felt very safe. The owners are lovely people who can help you with anything. We can highly recommend it.

A Gourmet Delight

World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered better than in this medieval gem.

Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look out for ragú on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savour their food, so a meal can last for hours.

Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops can be found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage listed. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views over this red-roofed city.

The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square are the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088 and home to the city’s best museums.

    Bologna is a great city with plenty to see and well located if wanting to travel to nearer towns for the day. We spent 4 nights in the city and saw eveything we wanted to at a very relaxed pace. 3 full days is about the max you'd want to see most of the city. Would definitely recommend the walk to the Sanctuary of the Madonna but perhaps not on a very hot day! - just take it easy as plenty of steps and uphill walking through the 666 arches (unless you cheat and take the roadtrain) - and take some water, perhaps take the train down is best. Lots of great restaurants - some hidden away down side streets - a bit pricey nearer the centre so do try to track down some better value smaller ones rather than those aiming for Joe Tourist. The Piazza is great - try and get there early before the main crowds. Recommend a walk up the clock tower for super views across the city - easy to buy tickets on the day inside (Early Sept) and was not very busy - also includes access to the museum which is interesting to stroll around. Would expect it to be very overcrowded in peak season - 2nd week of Sept was ok and very few children around so easy to see and do all on our agenda.

    The people are wonderful in Italy, friendly, helpful, even if you do not know the language! I like that in Italy and France you are not expected to tip. It’s built in. Transportation around Bologna was easy, transit and buses very good. The tour on the San Lucas train was well worth it. Enjoy Italy!!! And, the food!!! Ciau!!

    A vibrant city, with plenty of history, living up to its reputation as a city of food. Good value eating and drinking wherever you look and some superb food shops. Easy to walk around, plenty of museums and churches if in search of culture. We took a couple of guided tours which were great for orientation.

    There are lots of road works being done at the moment, many of them seem to be for the tram line. I'm not sure how long this is gonna last but I'm sure a visit to Bologna would be much better after the construction sites have cleared up. It also seemed less packed with tourists than Firenze (Florence), prices in the historic centre are still high but the people are definitely more local.

    A beautiful city. Fantastic food and great atmosphere. I would recommend going up the clock tower in the main square, it only costs 10 euros and gives a great view of the city. The centre is all easily accessible on foot, and you can meander around the food market, etc.

    The hotel is located around 20 min walking from the very centre of Bologna, but there are also some bus stops nearby. We walked even from the railway station so it s doable without exhausting yourself. The breakfast is top notch for Italy. We were upgraded at a superior room and they also welcomed us in a very nice and suprising manner since it was our honeymoon. This was deeply appreciated and they obviously have customer-orientated culture. We would choose it again.

    Excellent hotel for a stay in Bologna. Close to the station and a 10 minute walk down a lovely Boulevard (they were renovating the boulevard when we were there but it will be beautiful and elegant when finished) to all the historical sites and fabulous restaurants. Being the food capital of Italy, there was a lot to explore and unfortunately, one night wasn’t enough. Polite and helpful staff.

    We stayed here for a couple of night during our honeymoon, and we were upgraded to a junior suite! It was a lovely room, so spacious. We were actually sick for the Bologna part of the trip and were really able to make use of the room! Location is in a great spot, short walk to centre of Bologna and plenty of restaurants around the hotel. Staff were great too.
