The town is beautiful and green with trees lining the street. It is quiet in town after the Terme was shut down. If you are a hiker though, you landed in paradise. Gorgeous hikes in the Orfento Gorge and surrounding mountains. Also plenty of interesting and beautiful hermitages to explore. The sea is also not far away if the beach is calling. there is at least one good Bar/Coffee shop with fresh croissants and good cappuccino. Caramanico Terme is like many spa towns in Italy - its glory...
Caramanico Terme is like many spa towns in Italy - its glory days ended a few decades ago when the government cracked down on the racket of subsidising holidays in such places through the national health system. So the hotels here have not seen a lot of investment recently. On the other hand their simplicity is matched by their good value. It still has a lot going for it - it is located in a beautiful area in the mountains of Abruzzo, close to the Maiella National Park, and is re-inventing itself as a centre for trekking, canoeing and such things. The old town - downhill from the modern town with its 1960s-era hotels, is picturesque. In the main street you will find a few bars, a couple of restaurants and a "birreria". All those I tried were good. If you want to spend a couple of days walking in spectacular scenery, and don't mind old-fashioned but hospitable accommodation, this would be an excellent place in which to base yourself.Guest review byStewartAustralia - 10.0
It's a really beautiful, clean, well-kept village.
It's a really beautiful, clean, well-kept village. It is a short walk from the centre to the entrance to the national park which is a wonderful, natural place. Although we didn't actually see any wildlife to speak of, we did hear bears calling and saw traces of deer.
