First time visiting Domodossola. We used it as a base for heading out on hikes and we took the "Centovalli" train to Locarno in Switzerland. The centre of the old town is really charming. It is a peaceful town, not a lot of tourists. We found it very restful. Have heard that it is really beautiful in the autumn as well so we are considering going back. There are also a lot of very nice small towns and villages in easy driving distance, not to mention a number of lakes (including Lago Maggiore).Guest review byCas29Italy - 8.0

Unfortunately my stay in Domondossola was just an overnight one en route the Adriatic coast. I know a little of the town though and it has a long history, so for a visitor with time to spend digging about, there are a lot of interesting buildings and plenty of cafes hidden here and there ... Very interesting and pleasing small northern Italian town.
Very interesting and pleasing small northern Italian town. Make sure you have a drink in the market square. There was an excellent outdoor wind-band music performance in a nearby square one evening. The historic piazza Mercato and the area there(just round...
The historic piazza Mercato and the area there(just round the cornner and ?100 m down a shopping street) was wonderful. Modern services with cafes/restaurants and interesting shops made up the perimeter of the piazza . Despite its comfort and accommodation of modern details the historic atmosphere and authenticity wasn't compromised. There was a fabulous bookshop (for almost any subject I think) but brilliant for alpinism/alpine history. Supermarkets were <1km away, train <1 km away, peaceful at night - you can't not love it which is why people from Switzerland cross the border to enjoy life in some warmer sunGuest review byEricAustralia - 6.0
If you don't speak Italian and you don't have your own car...
If you don't speak Italian and you don't have your own car either skip Domodossola or make sure you are staying in a place right in town. Once you leave the center of town it's not a walkable place. The drivers race everywhere despite the narrow streets, there aren't any sidewalks in the residential areas and it's extremely difficult to find anyone who can speak English. On the positive side the prices were a lot lower for everything than in Switzerland and the architecture and scenery was beautiful.Guest review byChristineUnited States
