First time visiting Domodossola.
First time visiting Domodossola. We used it as a base for heading out on hikes and we took the "Centovalli" train to Locarno in Switzerland. The centre of the old town is really charming. It is a peaceful town, not a lot of tourists. We found it very restful. Have heard that it is really beautiful in the autumn as well so we are considering going back. There are also a lot of very nice small towns and villages in easy driving distance, not to mention a number of lakes (including Lago Maggiore).Guest review byCas29Italy - 8.0
Unfortunately my stay in Domondossola was just an overnight...
Unfortunately my stay in Domondossola was just an overnight one en route the Adriatic coast. I know a little of the town though and it has a long history, so for a visitor with time to spend digging about, there are a lot of interesting buildings and plenty of cafes hidden here and there ... It is, of course, on the way up to one of the major passes across to Switzerland, the Simplon, so many of mountain views are quite spectacular.Guest review byGraemeUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Very interesting and pleasing small northern Italian town.
Very interesting and pleasing small northern Italian town. Make sure you have a drink in the market square. There was an excellent outdoor wind-band music performance in a nearby square one evening. The historic piazza Mercato and the area there(just round the cornner and ?100 m down a shopping street) was wonderful. Modern services with cafes/restaurants and interesting shops made up the perimeter of the piazza . Despite its comfort and accommodation of modern details the historic atmosphere and authenticity wasn't compromised. There was a fabulous bookshop (for almost any subject I think) but brilliant for alpinism/alpine history. Supermarkets were <1km away, train <1 km away, peaceful at night - you can't not love it which is why people from Switzerland cross the border to enjoy life in some warmer sunGuest review byEricAustralia

We stayed in this lovely flat right in the old centre near the church and a few steps from a very reasonably priced pizzeria. There were lots of other eating places/ cafes nearby. We were only there for a night but wanted to stay much longer. The host was very responsive, helpful and generous and the key safe entry was very easy.
