Lake Garda is a wonderful destination for a holiday with plenty to do, on and off the lake, each village/town has its own charm and is different to each other in many ways. hiring a car is necessary if you want to explore further away from the lake to places like Verona, Venice, Mantova etc. but the ferries on the lake are very frequent and a great way to explore across the lake, The East side of the lake has more sun than the west which does loose the sun during the afternoon due to the mountains. Some of the towns can be very busy in high season so if you don't like crowds perhaps consider visiting the lake earlier in the season or during September or October when things are quieter. The whole lake is beautiful.
The whole lake is beautiful. We stayed in Garda town, for the second year running, and I think that this is the best spot having easy access to transport, such as buses and the lake ferries which can take you to most places around the lake for a very reasonable cost.There are a mildred of bars along the lake side - you’ll be spoilt for choice, but Catullo was our fav. great food and friendly staff. Easy to get to from Verona and it gave great access to other towns on the lake via water taxied and ferries. A good selection of restaurants and bars all reasonably priced and good food. the lake and the surrounding area are beautiful, we loved Riva, Limone and Garda and Sirmone We mainly ended up having Pizza and pasta but the restaurants catered for us though we were vegetarian. Garda was a great choice, we also visited Bardolino and Sirmione and found them much busier. The ferry runs regularly to other towns, there are many restaurants and shops, Garda a lovely town on the shores of Lake Garda. Stunning.
Stunning. It was peaceful during first week in May, not over run with tourists, i imagine it gets busy later in the season. Lovely walk into bardolino, also plenty of options for ferry trips, I did Sirmione, would have done Descenzano too if weather had been better. Easy to get to verona on bus from bus station.
