Didn't feel ripped off, prices were reasonable. The sites were as good as if not better than Venice minus the canals and crowds. Ducal palace and Te palace were amazing not just for the artwork but for the incredible decorated ceilings and walls. Lake tour is well worth doing. Mantegnas house disappointing. It is an easy town to walk around and see everything. The Duomo and of course the Basilica are stunning but also the very old circular church. Virgil’s birthplace well remembered, and the setting for Rigoletto, this place was made by successive ducal dynasties especially the great builder the Gonzagas. Was not expecting such an amazing beautiful and cultural city. The old City is beautiful with a range of churches, palazzos, squares and buildings. Palazzo Te and Palazzo Ducale both worth visits - allow about 2 hours for each. Mantova Card is good value for these two alone - but includes 18 different attractions and museums over a three day period, including some sites in nearby Sabbioneta. The room was big with a very high wooden ceiling. Nice staff – immediately shared the Wi-Fi password and brought me to my room. As I stayed only one night, I didn't have any other interaction with them. Although near the main road, the distance from it is sufficient. The stay here is peaceful. As cyclists, we welcomed the almost immediate connection of the place to the cycle paths leading to the lakes, the river and the city center.
