We liked Muggia.
We liked Muggia. It is small and easy to navigate the old town. The main Piazza has several bars and cafes, friendly and welcoming for a drink or a meal, and fun for people watching. There are more cafes and bars towards the waterfront. Just stroll around and enjoy the relative tranquility. We arrived in Trieste by train, taxi to Muggia was around 35 euros. We took a day trip back to Trieste by ferry (fun in itself), and did lots of walking from Muggia. It's a nice respite from the tourist circuit, and so pretty with stone buildings and small alleyways, plus the castle (exterior) and Duomo to enjoy. Muggia Vecchio, up on the hill behind, was well worth the walk.Guest review bySallyNew Zealand

Mauro, the owner was incredibly helpful picking us up when we got lost, and with information when needed. He is an amazing chef, I suggest you ask him to cook dinner for you. Mauro is also very knowledgable and it was a pleasure chatting with him about the history of the region. Short drive to Muggia port to take a boat to Trieste. We will definitely return. The apartment is compact but very comfortable and has everything you need. Alice was a very kind and helpful host. She gave us great tips for the town, provided easy check in instructions, and answered our questions.
