This is a perfect example of how hotels should operate. At Hotel Aurora you have what you need for a comfortable stay and the staff make you feel very welcome - even after check out. This is the essence of a hotel business, which many times I don't find (even in expensive luxury hotels). But Hotel Aurora is very efficiently operated, it is clean, nicely decorated, well located and reasonably priced. I would definitely stay there again and I highly recommend it during your stay in Pavia. Congratulations to the management and all the staff.

I was there to photograph several churches but found the city charming and could have enjoyed another day there. The Hotel Moderno right across from the train station was a great choice given its location close to the historic center, reserved on street parking, and proximity to the train station.

Pavia was a great non-tourist town. University vibe, well kept buildings and streets. Nice historic center and river area. Good restaurants. For a break from all the tourist, big city hustle - Pavia was perfect.

If you like interesting old churches and a lively town...

If you like interesting old churches and a lively town centre Pavia is a great place to visit for a couple of days. About 5 miles out of town is an amazing monastery complex. You can get there by bus or train but these methods required too much walking in the intense heat so we took taxis. Well worth a visit. Everyone friendly and helpful.

Pavia has wonderful medieval churches and a big museum at the Castello. The tomb of St. Augustine is amazing, and is a favorite stopping point of Pope Leo XIV. Boethius is also buried in Pavia. The city still keeps traditional Mediterranean hours (2-2 1/2-hour break midday), so it takes a day or two longer to see all the sites. We found good restaurants and would happily have stayed longer. It is said that April-May are the best months to visit, and it was already hot (80 degrees) at the end of May.

I've visited Pavia a few times.

I've visited Pavia a few times. In a recent visit, I went to the Museo Kosmos, the Natural History Museum. Founded in the 1700's it's one of the world's oldest museums dedicated to natural history, but with a modern vibe - apparently over 500 exhibits (I didn't count them!), multimedia games, videos, interactive activities for children. An excellent place of learning.

Pavia has a modern centre and the older part has some lovely buildings. Certosa di Pavia, an old monastery, is 9 minutes by train (don't forget to validate your ticket in the machine next to the platform entrance). Do check the opening times, though. Pavia would also be convenient for visiting other cities in the area

The host was communicative about leaving my luggage there before check-in. The place is just around the corner from a bus stop (Line 3) which is a quick ride directly from Pavia train station. All of the old town and the river is an easy walk from the place. Everything was clean and in working order. There are enough kitchen items to cook a meal if desired.

Hotel Excelsior is in the square of the main railway station, and it is in good position to visit the city. The room was big, with a comfortable enough bed. Breakfast was barely OK for the price I was charged (8.00 euros per day). Staff were friendly.
