Stresa is a resort hotspot.
Stresa is a resort hotspot. Mostly hotels, more hotels, loads of restaurants. However the Borromean islands by Stresa were 100% worth the 2 days we stayed there. One day we spent exploring the islands, the other we spent walking around, dining, relaxing and observing the multiple weddings that were taking place all around town (we counted five weddings on one day!). Cute place for a short stay. If you want a longer stay, set base in Verbania or get a car to drive around Lago Maggiore (we went without a car and did not rent one).Guest review byLysa - 10.0

We visited Stresa 25 years ago and had a throughly enjoyable time. This time around was similar, the whole area is fabulous. We have been visiting Stresa annually for 17 years, mainly for personal reasons and to visit friends. It is a beautiful location, compact and with plenty of things to do and see. It has grown in popularity over time and is now very busy, bordering on "over- touristed".There are plenty of great restaurants that serve food at reasonable prices. The downside is that it is now almost obligatory to do your homework and book your choice of activity or restaurant in advance. Most travelers/guests stay for one or two days and are just passing through or on guided tours which makes it difficult to experience all that Stresa has to offer, but for people that don't know it, we would highly recommend a visit.Guest review byRichardPortugal - 10.0

Stresa is a great base, located about 1/3 of the way up Maggoire and at a wide point where many places of interest are nearby. The boat service from Stresa is varied and frequent, enabling days of cruising to many parts of the lake. We stayed in Isola dei Pescatori but could see the extensive choice of accommodation, restaurants and shops on Stresa yet in keeping with the architecture and history of the townGuest review bySusanUnited Kingdom

It’s has the balance of both enough to sightsee ( the palace n garden are a must and are the highlight of isola bella island); and restaurants. I’m glad I chose to stay here, the commute to Stresa and the other islands are easy by ferry, which runs plenty and are always on time. Rooms are very clean and I had a lake view which was lovely to wake up to each morning. The piazza is adjacent with a great assortment of restaurants. Giovanni the owner lives close and is very helpful . The property is VERY quiet so it made for great sleeping despite being close to the piazza. Stresa is a great base for Lake Maggiore, day trip to Milan and the Maggiore Express day trip too.
