We had a wonderful time at Ryokan Seifuso. The room and facilities were comfy and clean. The Japanese breakfast was delicious (both the vegetarian option as well as the regular). The kids enjoyed the western style breakfast. The host were very friendly and accommodating.

Takai the owner was sooooo helpful, it made all the difference to my stay in Matsumoto. I loved the book he made describing the different restaurants and what their specialities were. So much love and hard work have gone into making this place special. Takai was patient and answered all of my questions and went out of his way to help me. I am very grateful for his kindness and consideration. Lots of eating and drinking places are only a few minutes away as is the castle. It's also only about 15 minutes walk from the station so even with a suitcase I could walk here.

Super nice location as its only a few minutes away from the JR Station. Its also a near to the malls and other restaurants. The hotel itself is very clean and they have a lot of facilities free for use. The room was really clean and they gave us fresh towels per day. The loungewear was also very comfortable wish they sold it so we can take it home.

We really liked Matsumoto and it was a much more fun and interesting city than we expected. We had an overnight stay, largely to visit the famous castle, after visiting Kiso valley. Would happily have stayed longer.

If you are considering buying something from bookoff in another city, make sure you visit the one in the Alpico plaza first. They are cheaper than the ones in Osaka. There’s a yakiniku place that’s really good but I can’t remember the name but it’s not far away from the matsumo station. For anyone wanting to visit kamikochi in this rainy season, I suggest you get a hotel here and just book a bus ticket for kamikochi the night before visiting so you’ll know for sure what kind of weather you’ll be dealing with. Also, if you haven’t visited Narai-juku, check it out and complete the trail, you’ll be more than amazed.

Matsumoto castle was beautiful, especially lit up at night. The Kasuma Yayoi gallery was impressive, with a really nice courtyard and cafe for lunch or a drink. Nakamichi street has really interesting architecture; with very quaint shops including one serving delicious shaved ice desserts!

l love the small cosy Matsumoto nothing like other big cities. it has its own charm and the food was great. the people are warm and friendly in spite of language barrier. staying near the station was a plus making our hopping from place to place an easy task. delighted to visit Wasabi Farm and enjoyed wonderful time taking beautiful pictures. Got a chance to enjoy Wasabi ice-cream too, just disappointed that we missed the harvest of wasabi onsite. Hope to visit again and explore further.

Only stayed one night as part of a motorbike tour, so did...

Only stayed one night as part of a motorbike tour, so did not see much apart from the castle and dinner. The castle is interesting, being one of the oldest, if not _the_ oldest surviving castle, having been built sometime in the 1500's without being rebuilt in the meantime. Unfortunately it is much too crowded, expect at least half an hour wait to get in, and once inside, it's almost a conga-line getting to the top and back down, making it difficult to actually appreciate the building and the period gun exhibits. The price has also increased a lot - a few years ago I paid 700yen, now the ticket is 1300yen. It's also currently (2005-04) got some refurbishment work on the outside. But still a definite visit, make sure to come back at night time for some great pictures of the lit-up castle reflecting in the moat. In town there's plenty of opportunities for restaurants and bars. There's some local specialities such as deep-fried chicken in a garlic and soy-sauce marinade and basashi (horse sashimi), both of which are great.

    Nice castle.

Nice castle. We got a free guided tour in English - which helped us understand the rich history of the castle. Then walked around the city and went to the Yayoi Kusama exhibition in the museum of Art. Weather at this time of the year was lovely - sunny and 15 degrees...

amazing room with an onsen bath. great view of city. staff spoke Japanese as this is a ryokan. this hotel has really wonderful staff. we got our own dining private room for breakfast n dinner. what impressed us most was on the 2nd night, our “butler” for dinner actually wrote out the kaiseki dinner in English notes and really spoke his best in English to introduce the menu to us. much kudos to his sincere efforts as my Japanese was rudimentary 😅 we really enjoyed our 2 nights stay.

This hotel had everything we needed and friendly, helpful staff. My husband enjoyed the onsen and PJs. I found the days too hot to want to use the onsen. The hotel doesn't have it's own parking but we could get a bit of a discount on the parkade across the street. Breakfast buffet was convenient and plentiful with options for many tastes. The hotel is an easy walk to the train station, restaurants, and even Matsumoto castle wasn't far.

We wanted to experience staying in a capsule hotel while in Japan. My partner and I each booked a capsule for the night, which are actually very spacious, even for my partner who is 6ft tall. The bathrooms are fully stocked with toiletries and hair-dryers, and towels and loungewear are also provided. Matsumoto isn't very big, but the hotel is close to the train and bus station, and a short walk to the main attractions.
