This is a small gem away from big cities. I wanted to spend a few days away from the busy life and this place was perfect. I could get there 99 % of the way using my JR Pass, gps map on my phone and two words I know in Japanese (hello and thank you). The host is very generous and friendly. They hold themselves to a high hospitality standard. In terms of attractions, there’s a culturally significant (and beautiful) Buddhist temple near by and Mt Minobu. You can hike the mountain or take a cable car. Overall I got a great value out of my stay. And the food was good too so I recommend you include that as well.

We had an amazing two nights at Habanobo. Ken and his family made us feel so welcome and learning about Buddhism from Ken was very interesting. Minobu is a beautiful and peaceful area and Ken gave us some excellent tips on walks in the area. The temple is very well kept, and our room was very large with lovely views. The breakfast and dinner was excellent and very carefully prepared and presented. Would love to go back one day!

As an European we loved Shimobe Hotel. We visited hotel to feel like Japanese people during vacation, and it was brilliant. We could dip our feet in hot water watching koi fish pool, we were invited to mash rice to make rice cakes during evening animations, and there is beautiful stone outdoor onsen. Everything was far beyond our expectations, and I recommend Shimobe Hotel to everyone seeking calmness, relax and friendly atmosphere in traditional Japanese style

Definitely a place to stay if you want to see Mt Fuji and its reflection on Lake Tanuki. There is a direct bus from Tokyo station and/or Mishima Station to the hotel, but with only a taxi option from Mt. Fuji station on Lake Kawaguchiko. Food is excellent, service is impeccable, and the onsen is to 'die for.'

An amazing location with amazing views. There is a games room where you can relax from a day of exploring the Mt Fuji area!! The staff were very friendly and very accommodating. A special thank you to the woman that looked after the games room as she was great as a conversation partner and told me about many things to see in the area!!

This was one of the best stops during our travels in Japan. We got picked up at the Fujinomiya train station by our hosts. We enjoyed riding the e-Bikes that we could rent from our host, as this allowed us to visit the local restaurants (we had a wonderful time with the locals at the お好み焼 和 Okonomiyaki restaurant) and the Kunugi Fish Farm, where we could fish with the family. Our host Hana was fantastic, she even arranged a drop-off at Fujinomiya train station outside of the regular drop-off trip, which is 10:30 am, so we could spend the morning in this fantastic rural area.

We had the most wonderful two nights at this guest house and truly recommend it - it’s an absolute hidden gem! The house is situated in the countryside with a perfect view of Mount Fuji. We booked both the room with a king-sized bed and Fuji view, as well as the superior room, since we were a family of four. The rooms are very spacious and clean. The shared bathroom is well organized by the hosts. There are two toilets, both equipped with traditional Japanese amenities. The hosts are incredibly friendly and accommodating. They go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Since the guest house is a bit outside Fujinomiya, they offer a shuttle service to pick you up at Shin-Fuji Station. On the way to the guest house, the host kindly offered to stop at a local supermarket so we could buy some supplies. When we arrived, we were greeted with homemade Thai jelly with cream and iced green tea - it was delicious. At check-in, we mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary. Later that day, we were pleasantly surprised with some cake to celebrate - such a thoughtful gesture that really touched us. They offer two types of breakfast: Western style or Japanese/Thai style. We chose the Japanese/Thai option and highly recommend it - it’s a unique experience, very tasty, costs 800 Yen per person, and is definitely worth it. If you plan to visit the Fuji area, we strongly recommend booking this accommodation.
