Touristy, somewhat charmless town that is nevertheless worth it for the magnificent shrines (Shinto, and the resting places of the first and third shoguns) and temples (Buddhist) and the museum (splurge on the museum! Seriously). Many people go to see these buildings + the red bridge (which is merely fine - short and not really noteworthy), but don't venture to the outskirts of Nikko to take in the other sites (Kanmangafuchi Abyss, Botanical Garden, Tamozawa Imperial Villa and much more impressive Nikko Dainichi Bridge).Guest review byChristopherUnited States - 10.0

Nikko is definitely a tourist town.
Nikko is definitely a tourist town. But a very different feel from Tokyo. Although the shrines/temples were inundated with fellow tourists, they were really quite amazing. One full day exploring Nikko is good. You need a car to see the waterfalls and they are worth it. Great restaurants in town. Trout from the nearby stream makes for amazing sashimi. Famous for homemade tofu. The area surrounding Nikko is better than the town itselfGuest review byCherylUnited States

The staff were friendly and offered assistance. We liked it as it was closer to shrine etc - quick walk or bus stop across the road to shrine. Lots of places to eat street food. If you buy nikko pass you can catch bus from station to hotel. We walked which is up a slight hill so be aware. I would stay here again though and liked the location over closer to station.
