The hotel is really close to the lake and perfectly in the middle of the north and south side, which makes it easy to reach both sides very fast. Very comfortable and a lot of value for money. Definitely the hotel of choice when I come to Suwa again.

If I would have to sum up my stay in one word it will be Perfection. I have been to a lot of ryokans, and this is one of the bests, if not the best. The moment you first enter the ryokan, and take off your shoes, you are greeted by the amazing staff with tea and local handmade treat, before being lead to your suite. The suite itself is beautifully decorated, spacious and comes with amazing view of lake Suwa from both the common area and the private onsen. Both dinner and breakfast, which are made from seasonal and local ingredients and change daily, were delicious and an amazing experience. The staff were kind to make onigiri, rice balls, from the dinner's leftover rice and deliver them to the suite. At night the first floor tea room becomes a bar serving amazing local sake, and other drinks, along with food. The roof mixed bath was one of the stay highlights, the amazing view of lake Suwa and the surrounding towns as the sun set, painting everything in orange and purple, and then when it became dark and all the lights were turned on was beautiful. The sunrise also was worth waking up for.

Beautiful lake, probably wonderful in summer with all sorts...

Beautiful lake, probably wonderful in summer with all sorts of watersports. It was autumn when we were there, and all the trees were in brilliant colors. Be sure to visit the castle! A hidden gem. It's also a sleepy town.

I arrived at Kamisuwa after seeing just Lake Suwa.

I arrived at Kamisuwa after seeing just Lake Suwa. While it would have been easier to get there from Tokyo, I chose to take the train. While it might not be the most cost-effective option, I found the three-hour visit to Lake Suwa, which took my time and explored the area until sunset, to be truly captivating. However, if you're heading up to Suwa Lake Viewing Park, I recommend taking a taxi or bus. I took a taxi because walking up was too much of a hassle. The descent was a bit scary, but it was worth the walk.

Hot springs are great.

Hot springs are great. I use public baths, but they're cheap and the water is good. I went to Koyu this time, but I recommend the hot springs of Tanga first. Locals bathe in the hot springs in the morning before going to work. How wonderful. The Senninburo bath at Katakurakan is also good, but this time I was bothered by the medicinal smell. I wanted to eat soba noodles. I was worried about the typhoon, so I couldn't walk around comfortably. This time I went to Matsumoto's Matsuka for eel, but the eel in Suwa is also good. The Art Nouveau Kitazawa Museum of Art I visited last time was also good.
