This hotel is the best I ever stayed in Japan. There are kitchen set, washing mechine with the detergent, dishware, etc. The room was big and the beds were big and nice too. The room is also clean.

I recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Takayama. The breakfast is delicious, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area, and the rooms are very cosy and clean. I will definitely come back here.

It’s a small hotel - only two rooms on our floor which helps with noise and lift being available quickly. Location is great - very close to the station and walking distance to the old town. We enjoyed the complimentary welcome drink at Hid’s Cafe which also does an excellent battered fish and chips. The room was the most spacious we had in Japan with a luggage rack and plenty floor space to leave a second bag open on the carpet. As well as space to hang up clothes if needed. There was also an ironing board and iron which was unexpected. We could charge both our devices using the USB ports next to each bed. The bed was very comfy and noise insulation excellent. There is free water dispenser on the 3rd floor and washing machine and dryer.

Fav Lux hotel is all luxury. It is located right next to the train and bus station in Takayama. We could travel to Hida village and Shirakawago easily. The shopping and food street is right opposite. The room was very well appointed and spacious. The balcony had great views. We could store our bags on the ground floor. The staff was very helpful. The hotel cafe is great. Highly recommended

We love this town and have visited it before.

We love this town and have visited it before. It’s charming but not twee; historic but not precious. There is so much to see and do in town, not to mention in the surrounding area. We never seem to have enough time to see and do everything that we planned. We will return!

Takayama is a beautiful small city, very walkable with a chill retro vibe. It’s a great base for day trips to kamikochi, shin hotaka ropeway and shirakawa-go! We underestimated how much time we needed for the day trips and exploring Takayama city properly. We stayed for two days and wished we could’ve had three or four instead.

Hida Takayama is a charming city.

Hida Takayama is a charming city. With lots of historic and cultural sightseeing spots, delicious local cuisine and tasty Japanese small sweets, it offers visitors so many fantastic choices to relax. In the day time, visitors can start their day with a special breakfast at the morning market. Then take a tour bus and let it show you around to take a look at the small city or just take a walk along the well-preserved ancient streets. No matter what season it is, this small place always attracts a great number of travelers to visit it every year.

The town is small, without any striking landmarks, but many old houses have been preserved. The town's residents have long been engaged in carpentry. There are good porcelain shops. The surrounding area is full of fascinating sights, including the village of Shirakawago and the mountains with their hot springs. I recommend eating in Suzuya - It's popular, so you need to arrive a few minutes before they open. I recommend drinking morning coffee in Sanu coffee stand. There is truly good European coffee here

We chose Takayama as a stopover on the way to Hirayu Onsen, so it was a very brief stay. I would love to stay longer as while we were on a short walk around I saw a lot of wood carving workshops, which I'd love to explore

It is a lovely location.

It is a lovely location. It has a looped walk that shows multiple shrines and the old castle, watch out for the bears. There is an old street with wooden houses, it is a bit of a tourist trap and the shops are over priced but it is worth seeing. The museum is interesting and we met a lovely old man that guided us around. The street market was interesting.

Takayama Ouan is the best hotel I've stayed in Japan. The place is beautiful and styled as a traditional hotel. Except for the reception you walk barefoot on clean and soft carpets in all the hotel. The rooms were much larger than average. From the open air SPA on the last floor you can gaze on Takayama mountain range. The breakfast was varied and top class and the evening there was free serving of handmade ramen. It is impossible for me to find even the slightest defect.

Lovely country ryokan up in the mountains with great onsen baths. Its remote and no facilities nearby but if you want a real Japanese ryokan experience this is great value. Dont expect Western menu but enjoy the artistry of japanese cuisine. There is a bus stop 150m away but buses run hourly genetslly. 1.5hr to Takayama and 2hrs or so to Matsumoto. Both via Hirayu Onsen. Its also close to beautiful Kamikochi and the Shin Hotaka Ropeway.

Staying at Ryokan Oyado Yamakyu is a true Japanese Experience. The place is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and confortable. The Onsen is very well equipped with everything you may need and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The food was very abundant and delicious. This is the perfect retreat hotel in the mountains. Old style Japanese ryokan with the friendliest staff. Food was amazing. The rooms are huge! And we had both western beds and futons! The outside onsen is such a delight and you can relax in it under the stars. It’s out of the way so a bit tricky to get to with public transport but that’s what we wanted for a trip to the mountains.

The hotel has everything you need for a confortable and ncie stay in Takayama. It is very close to the JR station (like 5min walk) and the city centre. The room was a bit bigger that the "japanease standard". The onsen was also really nice. The cost/quality ratio is very very high!
