A lovely, modern hotel with relatively large rooms, every amenity you could want, an excellent restaurant, and a beautiful onsen and restaurant complex next door. Just across the street from the train station and a very short walk catty-corner to the ferry terminals. The staff was terrific, both in the hotel and restaurant, and did everything possible to make us feel like honored guests. An extra touch was free coffee/tea/snacks/ice cream and as much bottled water as we wanted. One of our favorite hotels on our 3-month trip.

I like everything about this hotel, but especially the location and the view. It’s a 15-20 minute walk to the station, so it’s a bit quieter, which I prefer. You can see the sea and race track from all rooms :-)

A beautiful and spacious house not far from the port to Naoshima. The host picked us up at the train station and took us back there at the end of our stay - exceptional service. The house was retro, perfectly presented and had two large bedrooms with both western and tatami beds. The hosts kindly set up a cot and put a child seat on an e-bike to accommodate the child in our group. Free bikes (3 e-bikes and regular pedal bikes) were available in the shed. Local udon and sushi restaurants were great. It’s a short cycle to the port to the art islands and we were able to take the bikes on the ferry to explore the islands. Recommend for a home-like stay. Thank you for your fantastic hospitality!

Friendliest (English-speaking) staff in the whole of Japan. Well-decorated hotel with the best location to explore the islands and the food scene after returning from them. Got guidance, met other travellers, and couldn't be happier. Breakfast was insanely good, too.

Quiet area and comfy bedding ,a good base for the ferry to Naoshima. There is access to kitchen facilities which is useful as breakfast and evening meal was not available when we were there ,we should have stopped at the Family Mart on the way there . Very good value for money. Helpful host

We stayed here rather than on Naoshima island and took the short ferry across to the island. When we planned our trip, I had not factored in that many of the museums on the island were closed on a Monday and that some had to be booked for the Sunday. The benefit is that the onsen next to the Uno hotel is wonderful. You can be outside in one of the outside baths and at night gaze at the stars. We had a massage and a Japanese meal in the onsen and ambled happily back to the hotel. We delayed our planned departure to go the next morning after we had checked out of the hotel. We did not really explore the town itself but had a lovely meal in a restaurant close to the ferry building, overlooking the park and shopped in the big stores near the station.

It’s a nice ryokan - close to the harbour and the train station. No staff - but it suits me well. Feels like my own apartment. Clean, simple but nice and cozy. They cleaned the room every day - I didn’t even expected this… if I ever come back to Tamano a m- and I hope I will because of the art islands around and the beautiful Onsen in Tamano - I will certainly try to stay in this ryokan again

The town itself isn't very interesting, and the amenities are quite disappointing, except for a fantastic new onsen that's truly superb and very reasonably priced. The town's only access point is to the islands of Naoshima and Teshima, which are absolutely stunning, but it's much better to stay overnight on one of the islands.

We were there just as a typhoon had hit Japan the day before. So, the first evening, almost all the restaurants were closed. But the second day, we had a choice. It's not a particularly beautiful village, but it has some lovely spots and is especially ideal for those who want to visit Naoshima but can't or don't want to stay overnight.
