If I could give this ryokan 11 out of 10 I would do so Beautiful architecture, fabulous rooms, exquisite meals and attentive, friendly staff who manage the occasional gaffes of a foreigner with tact and humour.

I had the best time at Hotel Nupka! I initially booked for one week and ended up extending my stay to two and a half weeks—that’s how much I enjoyed it. It's more of a hotel-style stay than a hostel, which suited me perfectly. The space is very clean and comfortable. There’s a lovely lounge downstairs connected to the café, where you’re welcome to hang out or work if you’ve bought something. They also offer a separate lounge/workspace in the building next door, which I found really convenient and useful. The owner, Kotomi-san, is so kind and welcoming—she really made my stay feel extra special. All the staff were equally lovely and helpful. There’s also a lot of information available about things to do in and around Obihiro, which made exploring the area super easy. The location is fantastic too! I highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Obihiro—it’s a wonderful place with great vibes and people.

The hotel is located at the centre of the city, most of the popular restaurants are within walking distance. The breakfast is excellent with a lot of choices. The restaurant is at the top floor, so it is a breakfast with a view. The onsen is also not to be missed, just follow the instructions.
