Battambang is a very friendly quiet city with a few attractions that are worth seeing. We enjoyed seeing the bats exit the caves on the outside of town, but we really just enjoyed walking and discovering places and views. Definitely worth a visit. And the drive from Battambang to Siem Reap is beautiful and takes you through an ancient village which still has many old wooden houses. They were stunning. We can recommend, Jaan Bai, The Lonely Tree restaurant and Romcheik 5 Artspace and Cafe. The gallery was awesome and the cafe on the top floor was an oasis of green serving great food. Battambang is more like a working town and far less touristy...
Battambang is more like a working town and far less touristy than Siem Reap. You get to see more of traditional Cambodia here but the town doesn’t have a huge selection of restaurants and bars. The bamboo train and visit to the killing caves is very good. We ate in our hotel each evening as couldn’t find anything that we wanted to go into town for as it was too far to walk. It is a quieter place than Siem Reap and less developed but that is a bonus - some good restaurants and the Phare Circus school was great. Battambang is starting to see more travelers, so the place is gradually improving. Prices are similar to Siem Reap. In the city, it is worth visiting: Wat Kandal, Domrey Sor Pagoda. Excellent little town that a friend recommended to me.
Excellent little town that a friend recommended to me. Not sure if there is enough sightseeing to justify a long stay there (or if you enjoy relaxing, then you can probably justify it easily with such affordable hotels), however I was lucky and got a guide who had rehearsed his lines well enough to be able to teach me a lot on my half-day tour, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Muni family are such kind and warm people, you really feel at home with them. The hotel is also great, clean and spacious rooms with everything you need and a very nice pool. Also consider doing a tour with Mr. Soon, we really enjoyed our afternoon with him, where he took us to interesting places and had many stories to tell! Outside Battambang, but easily accessible by tuk tuk (the hotel even pays for 1 journey a day). It has a great restaurant that's well priced. The pool area is excellent and the garden and lake pretty. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful, with lots of advice on how to get the most from the area and options for tours at good prices with English speaking drivers. There is a coffee shop just outside the hotel. The owners were kind and helpful in letting us know how to get around. Hotel is located near the central market and several shops where you can buy all basic things. Rooms are clean with basic amenities.
