We have not stayed before but We found out that this hotel changed ownership in December 2024. So ignore any previous reviews. It is clearly run by professionals now and they have done extensive refurbishment. It is truly beautiful and spotlessly clean. It had a Superb beach location, lovely swimming pool. Double aspect infinity pool. Attentive staff. Hotel located on a little peninsula with lots of pretty areas to sit. Sunsets superb. Can walk along beaches to other hotels in Ahungalle otherwise you really need a tuk tuk which the staff will always get for you. ( and are cheap) we visited a huge reclining Buddha Temple whilst staying here. A must do ! Internet OK. Fridge in room. Tea and coffee making facilities in room. Good supply tea and coffee and 2 waters daily. It was a lovely stay.

This is paradise on Earth! A human-sized hotel with 13 rooms and numerous services. The staff is very helpful, always very friendly and willing to assist. The rooms are functional and decorated with attention to detail. Amazing views of coconut trees, the pool, and the Indian Ocean. The beach is very well equipped, not crowded, right at the hotel's doorstep, with sun loungers, canopy beds, and staff to monitor and assist guests. The place is very calm and relaxing. The hotel is like a secluded island in an area that doesn't have much interest in itself. The highlight: the restaurant serves excellent food, worthy of a starred restaurant, catering to all tastes at reasonable prices. The breakfast is also excellent, nothing like the bland international food of big hotel chains. The chef was attentive to our needs and tried to fulfill every wish we had. What's more, for my husband's birthday, we were offered a cake and a bottle of wine. We really felt pampered in Ahu Bay. Thanks again to all staff for this memorable holiday!

This is truly a hidden gem. If you book Dinesh's place you will get what is in the photos but at the same time you will get sooooo much more that can't be captured by a camera. You get the honor of being accepted by a local Sri Lankan family as one of their own. This warm hearted family will go to extra lengths to make you feel like in a home away and hard to leave :-). Compared to tourist hot spots in Sri Lanka, Dinuli is offering a unique experience at a reasonable price. Bottom line is if you are after something authentic this is a place for you and not a hotel with 24 hour service. Apart from accommodation, beach is amazing and for a change you can actually swim without being slammed by huge waves. They are manageable. You will not make a mistake if you book Dinuli. Villa 42 is, in short a hidden gem. For anyone looking for comfort, privacy and wonderful hospitality they won't get any better than this lovely villa just half a mile or so from gorgeous (mostly empty) beaches and several decent restaurants (ask Siri for recommendations). Siri will provide his pampered guests with the best of breakfasts adapting tp personal taste (Sri Lankan style or to more western taste). Siri's well maintained swimming pool will be your refreshing reward after a few hours of Sri Lankan heat.

My favourite place was the turtle hatchery. Most meals were eaten at the Hotel. Very easy to get around. There is a tour agency opposite the hotel entrance, it cant get any better than that. It is easy to take tuk tuk or van taxis. Superior beach front view. Beautiful gardens and swimming pool. Well done to the management and staff for this top class facility. Local fishermen were easy to approach and social chat with.

Ahungalla is a little village, hence to see places around...

Ahungalla is a little village, hence to see places around you need bus or tuk tuk services, they run on main road all the time. We loved Bentota - a resort 20 min on a bus - it had calm beach and cafes to eat/drink around. Just outside Bentota there is village where you can get good shopping for clothes, gifts etc. Galle is 50min drive on a bus from Ahungalla. It's a lovely historic place to visit. We liked Ahungalla as it's less busy/noisy than other towns, and the villa we stayed was 5min walk to the beach. There is a good supermarket for basic items.

If you have your own tuk-tuk or scooter, Ahungalla is ideal for excursions and sightseeing. Furthermore, Ahungalla itself is NOT a tourist hotspot. Be sure to visit Barbara at the Jungle Beach Restaurant!

A wonderful start to our Sri Lanka holiday.

A wonderful start to our Sri Lanka holiday. The accommodation is beautiful, nestled in a bird paradise with monkeys, chameleons, hummingbirds, and much more. The hosts were very helpful and friendly; we felt very comfortable there and would book again in a heartbeat. The food was excellent, the breakfasts delicious and beautifully presented. Thank you for everything!

Ahungalla has the advantage of offering accommodations where you can't hear either the road or the railway. The beach is beautiful, clean, and empty. Unfortunately, there are very few places to enjoy a coffee or a coconut in the shade. You can easily take a 30-minute bus ride to Bentota.

A quiet little town by the ocean.

A quiet little town by the ocean. Sandy beaches with a gentle slope into the water. Shops, stalls, and all the traffic are concentrated along the main thoroughfare. Several restaurants, a Bank of Ceylon with currency exchange, a liquor store in the center of town on the main road, and a Cargills supermarket nearby. Easy and inexpensive transportation is available by tuk-tuk.

The house is pretty. I especially enjoyed the balcony and sitting room with great views due to the beach front location. You can watch the amazing sunset right from your room. There is a swimming area close by (at the rocks to the left): according to the staff the swimming right in front of the hotel is dangerous. But it was fine both days i was there, with hardly any waves or current. The staff is sweet and fun and up for a chat. The dinners were good, but really way too pricy for what you are getting. Same goes for drinks.

I spend in Ahungalla one month. This was my solo travel. Owner - Vinoj help me any time. I really liked his wife and children. I felt like part of the family. Breakfast was really good. The facility was clean. Garden is really amazing and very comfortable. Wifi connection was good - I had to work remotely also and I didn’t have any problem.

A truly fantastic place to end our Sri Lanka trip! Our own separate beach just outside our room witch was clean , big and very comfortable. Ahungalla beach is just next to the house, super nice! The staff, especially Luca was so kind and helpful with everything. The breakfast was great!
