The comfort of green rice fields. Sigiriya Rock can be seen clearly from the accommodation. The accommodation was very basic but not uncomfortable. We stayed for 3 nights, the water worked fine and the electricity went out once. I ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel every day and lunch at a village restaurant, and the skills of the hotel chef ‘Saranggu’ seemed to be the best in Sigiriya. We were very surprised. I liked the feeling of traveling to the countryside. The village scenery and people were very nice. I also want to see the big, gentle dog ‘Roxy’. And there is a tuk-tuk selling bread that comes in front of the accommodation every morning and evening.

To be honest, it is hard to say that the room condition or service quality is equal or better than 5-star hotels. So if you expect perfection as a hotel, you may be slightly disappointed. The room condition is a bit old. However, the experience of staying here cannot be evaluated simply by the quality of the accommodation. It is the best. Here, you can feel the philosophy of Bawa that you should be immersed in nature. If you understand Bawa, such as the depth of experience, the meaning of space, and nature and architecture, Heritance Kandalama is a place that has more value than that. The best hotel

Perfect place!!! The cabanas are spacious and very clean with the best shower we had in Sri Lanka. The pool is clean and large and a bonus for hot hours, we were with children who really enjoyed it. The host, Gamani, is so kind, helpful and friendly. We couldn't ask for a better place than this.

This was a wonderful stay with an even more wonderful family. They make some amazing food! The treehouse is on their garden (but quite private at the back sheltered by trees) and looks amazing. There are peacocks and monkeys running around the garden (or close to it) which felt like a Safari on its own (they stay a good distance away so it feels safe too). They have a cute puppy on premises who likes to play. The location is super close to the centre via Tuk tuk & the treehouse is very comfortable to stay in.

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but purely for the iconic Sigiriya Rock—and it was absolutely worth it. The experience was incredible, with stunning views from the top. My friends and I climbed up for sunrise, which I highly recommend as the best time to go. Just be prepared: there are a lot of stairs—some carved directly into the rock, others metal and uneven. We visited in November just after the monsoon, so it was warm and the climb had us sweating buckets. If you plan on taking those perfect social-media photos, bring a spare T-shirt… or do what I did and let AI handle the magic! Although the ascent was tough and left us literally out of breath, the moment we reached the top made it all worth it. The views were truly breathtaking—quite fitting, since the climb already took my breath away.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for two nights in the end as we got to sigiriya late. This meant we ate dinner one night at the little hut which wass great, climbed the rock, then moved on to the habarana which was also interesting to wander and eat.

The weather is very calm.

The weather is very calm. Recommended time to start climb is 5.45 AM. So worthy to watch the surroundings from top of the Sigiriya. You can learn a lot about Sigiriya. You can get a guide if you want from the entrance.

I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya.

I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya. And no wonder such a wonderful World Heritage Site kept popping up everywhere: Test it against the massive old fortress, the gorgeous frescoes, and images taken of landscapes from the summit, and there you’ll pick one of Sri Lanka’s greatest treasures. Not an easy or casual climb but certainly one that throws panoramic views so very far worth it and lucid into history at every step. Water gardens at the bottom quite worth a visit. One has to get there at dawn to avoid numerous tourists and scorching sun. Thus, in general, Sigiriya is a combination of artistic creation, engineering work of antiquity, and a miracle of nature, and a must-see site in Sri Lanka.

There is so much more to do in this area than I realised.

There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.

A nice hike to view a breathe taking view.

A nice hike to view a breathe taking view. If anyone should travel to Sigiriya they should start to climb the rock at 5.30am as the ticket counters open. Wearing proper hiking or workout clothes would be the best.

Best place you can stay in Sigiriya. It feels like a 5 Star Hotel treatment. The location is perfect, very near to all the sights and restaurants. The owner and his family are the most welcoming and lovely people I have met in Sri Lanka. Truly amazing and honest people, who will help you with anything you need. Breakfast was delciousssss!!! The bedroom and bathroom were the cleanest I have had in 3 months in Asia. I rarely leave any recommendation, but this Homestay was just a 10/10. Truly recommended!

This friendly hotel with delicious restaurant was our first accomodation after our arrival to Sri Lanka. It was very convenient to take from here one-day-tours to the old ancient capitals Anuradhapura and Pollonaruwa, to Sigiriya fortress, to Dambulla Cave Temple and to the Minneriya National Park. We received a refurbished room with a great shower on the first floor with direct access to the beautiful eden garden.

Kandalama is beautiful! We loved the setting and felt very relaxed being in nature. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, covered in vines and it was fairly conveniently located to Sigiriya and Dambulla. We also enjoyed the food and the pool is a wonderful place to relax with a cocktail after climbing Sigiriya and Pidurangala.

It had beautiful surroundings and was very convenient if you wished to visit Sigiriya Rock. The hotel was beautiful and of exceptional design. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Meals were excellent. In fact one of the best places I have stayed. Would highly recommend.
