You should visit Šiauliai. Interesting city with nice museum: Photography Museum, Cat Museum and Chocolate Museum. And more. Lake, pedestrian avenue and church with the tallest tower of Lithuania. An interesting place. Hill of Crosses was great. There's a few museums worth a look. We just didn't have enough time. Some are closed on Mondays, whch seems to be a common thing in the Baltics. We stayed one night in Siauliai, while traveling from Vilnius to Riga. It was a good "break" on the train travels and does not force you to leave Vilnius at an early hour. The Hill of Crosses (one of the main sights in Lithuania) is a spiritual place for the whole of Lithuania. It is interesting to see, but in my opinion it is not a "must see" for tourists. Siauliai might be a bit overlooked as many would pick...
Siauliai might be a bit overlooked as many would pick Vilnius, Kaunas and the seaside, but it has it's charm and lots of places to visit. The outskirts of Siauliai is green, there are plenty of forests, lakes and other lovely nature places to visit. Few tips; walk Siauliai boulevard, there are some cosy coffee shops to stop and have a slice of cake. There are soem sculptures and fountains to take pictures. Walk to the beautiful St. Apostles of Peter and Paul Cathedral and from there go to the sculpture of golden boy and the lake. A half day trip to Hill of the crosses. The city is easy to get around.
The city is easy to get around. They have an app for the city buses where you can buy your ticket. If you love cat's visit the cat museum fantastic visit. The hill of crosses I think all should see as it is a site to behold on it's own. Only down side is the bolt scooters left around the city. Tidy kitchen area, fridge, etc. - everything you need to prepare breakfast etc. if you want. Location was good, at the peaceful end of the beautiful main pedestrian zone. Cafes, restaurants etc in walking distance as well as the lake and those many museums and other sights that Šiauliai has to offer.
