Perfect location for us. Very pleasant and helpful staff - most spoke very good English. Lovely food in the restaurant, great bar area and comfy longer sofas. Bike hire was a real bonus.

Location of the hotel is great, just near the harbor and beside the lighthouse. Lots of food and drink options even till night. Its situated in market area and lots of local shops selling local items. The hotel itself has a good facade. The returant and lounge were great. The room was clean and spacious. We were very happy with the rpom - it was a two floor room with a small bed for kid on the upper floor, with a desk and chair. Lovely view especially from the upper floor. The staff were very helpful. In short the hotel offered what we needed for a perfect trip.

The hotel is an easy walk from the ferry in a quiet side street just off the main strip. It's friendly, quite traditional, and owners are proud to share information about their island. They provide a nice Dutch breakfast, and there's a relaxing terrace bar area. It will be my first choice on a return visit.

Terschelling is beautiful, especially if you can avoid the busiest times. Lies is conveniently located, making it easy to cycle in all directions. There's a supermarket, bus stop, and bike rental, and several restaurants nearby.

Super cozy and friendly staff.

Super cozy and friendly staff. You'll immediately feel at home. The rooms have almost all been renovated and have comfortable beds and a lovely, spacious bathroom with both a rain shower and a standard shower. The restaurant serves delicious dishes, and the double beef steak is especially recommended.

There wasn't much to do in Lies itself.

There wasn't much to do in Lies itself. But it was very easy to get to all the surrounding villages. We walked a long way. The beach was about a 45-minute walk. We also rented bikes. There were lovely terraces everywhere, and everyone on Terschelling really goes out of their way to make you feel at home. A real holiday!

Hotel de Walvisvaarder, supermarket, bike rental, and bus...

Hotel de Walvisvaarder, supermarket, bike rental, and bus stop are all close together. Easily accessible. Roads are clear and in good condition. Restaurants are available but we haven't visited them. Less crowded than West-Terschelling.

LIES IS LOCATED ROUND THE CENTER OF TERSCHELLING; IT'S A PEACEFUL PLACE. IT'S A GOOD BASE FOR CYCLING BOTH EAST AND WEST. YOU CAN CHOOSE THE NORTH SEA SIDE OR THE WADDEN SEA SIDE. THERE'S A GOOD BUS CONNECTION TO THE FERRY FROM LIES.

Hotel de Walvisvaarder is an excellent place to stay, with friendly and helpful staff, clean, spacious rooms, a lovely terrace, and good food at a reasonable price. If I had to mention one minor complaint, it would be the somewhat dated (but clean) bathrooms.

The personnel were all exceptionally kind, friendly and helpful. Dinner was excellent, and the extra care to arrange an early breakfast, was also very much appreciated. The hotel is modern, however blends in well with the village surroundings. It is situated on the bus route to and from Westerschelling. The bicycles to rent on site, is also a welcoming feature.

Efficient and speedy problem solving: - the large mirror over the bed was taken off the wall as I did not dare to sit up in bed, touching the mirror made it move. - noisy hinge of wardrobe was oiled. Beautiful flowers edging room terrace Hotel has clearly grown over the years yet overview by owners still very noticeable. Pleasant and caring atmosphere.

We had a great experience in a quiet and comfortable setting at a convenient location. The dinners at the hotel restaurant were very good. They had so many bicycles and the rental service was well-organized. The hotel personnel was very friendly and kind. I would choose this hotel again on a next visit.
