Oudewater is a typical small Dutch town, where most people seem to know each other. It has some good small shops, a town museum, plenty of places to eat and drink, canals (of course), medieval buildings, and more. It's main visitor attraction is an original medieval weighing office dating to the 1600's where people who were accused of being a witch could get themselves officially weighed on a board suspended by chains from the ceiling and obtain a certificate certifying that their weight makes it imposible for them to be a witch. Witches had to be below a certain weight to be able to fly. Some accused made the long journey, even from neighbouring Countries, to the Oudewater weighing office as there weren't many around. Here visitors get weighed one by one on the original weighing scale and receive their personalised official certificate in their chosen language to (hopefully) certify that they are too heavy to be a witch. Fun for kids and adults alike. Upstairs is a short video and small museum. Definitely recommend this.

Oudewater is a delightful town and was a surprise to us.

Oudewater is a delightful town and was a surprise to us. It is full of interest and history especially for a small place. Of note are the Hakenwaag, where you can find out if you a a witch! the Rope museum is also worth visiting as you can learn about the historical source of wealth in the town. It has some splendid buildings in a compact area. The town has a good range of cafes and restaurants all seemingly popular. It also has a pleasant variety of shops. The market on Wednesday is a highlight.

Oudewater is a charming, historic town where you can easily spend a few hours. Stroll through the streets along the canals, enjoy a bite to eat and a drink at the market square. Perhaps visit the small witches' weigh house, which has a fascinating story behind it.

The town is fantastic, close to many famous places such as The Hague, Rotterdam, Leiden, Delft....in the town centre there is everything: butcher, greengrocer, baker and supermarket. Away from the confusion of the big centres and very characteristic.

Beautiful scenery with lots of water and wildlife. A great base for all sorts of excursions from South Holland. Kinderdyk is only 30 km away! Don't forget mosquito repellent!

Beautiful old buildings from Holland's heyday. The Witches' Weighhouse is definitely worth a visit! A lovely, peaceful city walk can be done in about an hour. Enjoy delicious ice cream in the city center and lunch at Hex (next to the museum). Friendly people.

The hotel is situated in the heart of the town of Oudewater, a delightful place. The hotel is smallish, but well appointed. The rooms are spacious and furnished appropriately especially if you enjoy designer chic. The beds are comfortable and the desk is of a good size for working at. Breakfast was adequate but choice was unimaginative. The restaurant is large, especially the light conservatory area. A limited dinner menu. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is a good base for the exploring the area. We used the good public transport links.

Very cozy hotel, great beer suggestions from the barkeeper in the café. Also directly besides the small city center which definitely is worth a look. Easy access to the rooms through the night entrance from the hotel parking place.

We were three families who booked all 3 apartments. The location was great right in the centre of pretty Oudewater and the apartments were clean and spacious. Collecting the keys was easy. We lived the roof top terrace.
