The staff member was great, specially the girls at the reception. Real nice, friendly and very helpful! They gave us plenty of info for the hike to trolltunga and prepare the lunch box for us. The apartments were really quite and confortable , perfect for resting after the hike.

We went from Bergen to Odda on Saturday and spent one night at the hostel. We went for the hiking on Sunday early morning and back to Bergen at the afternoon. The small town is really cosy and beautiful.

Tyssedal and Odda are both industrial towns.

Tyssedal and Odda are both industrial towns. There are mountains, the fjord and waterfalls, but there are also large heavy industry factories - one produces titanium oxide and one is a zinc smelter. They are there because they need power and there is a ready source of power from the hydro electric station located inside the mountain at Tyssedal. The location is great if you want easy access to Trolltunga and Bondhusvatnet, but it isn't very touristy - it is more of an industrial area. The Kraftmuseum is excellent. We ended up there because it was raining in the morning - however, it was really good - a film and then a guided tour of the old hydro electric station which has been restored. It also gives a lot of information about the area, how it changed from farming to industry and why it is so industrial. So to summarise - use Tyssedal/Odda as a base but don't expect unspoilt scenery.

A very pleasant region to visit.

A very pleasant region to visit. We had lunch in Odda where we had several types of restaurants and dinner was taken at the hotel with a limited but more than adequate selection.

Was offered a room upgrade, accepted, was disappointed. What would a couple use 5 made-up beds for? Would have been better with 2 good chairs to sit on. Very good breakfast. Poor signage from the main road to the hotel A little noise from the factory. Great fjord view

A small town with only one mini market, which closes at 5:00...

A small town with only one mini market, which closes at 5:00 PM on weekends, so if you're arriving by public transport, you'll need to plan accordingly. It's definitely better to stay in this small town if you have a car. It's well-connected by public transport, but there are only a few buses per day. There's only one restaurant, but it's quite expensive.

We had an apartment for two nights to use as a base for the Trolltunga hike, and it was ideal. Free parking, good Wi-Fi, easy check in/out. Pretty nice view. Plenty of space to move around - and to dry wet clothes! Kitchen was well equipped (no toaster but there’s a grill) with a useful supply of salt/pepper/oil and tea/coffee/sugar. They have a deal with the hotel nearby - a free glass of local cider and 10% off food in the restaurant.

Fantastic hostel with free access to the Tyssedal Hotel’s sauna and jacuzzi. The bus stop for the Trolltunga hike is literally a minute walk away. The kitchen was very clean and equipped with everything we needed to cook meals and prepare lunches for the hike. The dorms are comfortable and clean. Bathroom was cleaned daily. Highly recommend!

The shower was good and there was heater in the bathroom, which kept it very cozy. The rooms were big and beds were comfortable. The restaurant in the hotel is quite good, we had a good meal after the hiking (highly recommend it).
