The apartment was well laid out, very new looking inside with everything you could need and all facilities were to a very high standard. There were little extras that you would not necessarily expect like luxury shower gel and shampoo and small chocolates

I am not one for lengthy reviews however there are many things that I would like to comment on. This was a last minute booking for the Vintage weekend in Whanganui (? spelling) the Town was very busy with the majority of good Hotels and Bach's booked up, Fordell is a couple of miles out of town. But this was easily compensated with the Hotel’s location, appearance and the Hosts Stephen and Annette. An 1860’s ranch house which burnt down in 1997 ( I believe ) but rebuilt to the original construction with beautiful “Rimu” orange wooden floor, doors and cupboards.everything authentic, but with some modern extras. A sight to behold. The House with 3 rooms at the moment, is set in very well maintained beautiful grounds and gardens surrounded by Palm Trees and woodlands, almost picture postcard views facing the road. The house has history shouting out from every corner. We stayed two nights, which allowed visits to the weekend activities (vintage weekend is recommended) but also allowed time for a tour by the obviously proud owners S and A , both knowledgeable about their property and it’s history. 3 rooms at present one en-suite, offering a hearty welcome,

So much to see. The architecture is beautiful.

So much to see. The architecture is beautiful. Old buildings lovingly painted in pastel colours , a superb playground for the children , a paddle steamer riverboat which cruises the Whanganui river . A very pretty city with lots to enjoy. Great art shops and the best farmers markets ever . Fab restaurants to name a few The Rutland Arms , and the Castlecliff cafe/restaurant “The Citadel”.

I love Whanganui and have always enjoyed my time there — I have family in the area. Momiji was a lovely place to go for dinner, and Caroline’s Boatshed is always a favourite for a meal. The Saturday market is also a great place to visit and never disappoints.

Beautiful river city.

Beautiful river city. You can bike safely along designated roads or try the mountain bike parks. You can surf at the local beach. Gardens are magic, and the town bustles. Fab cafes all over. Brilliant arts centre, local artists everywhere, and the Sarjeant Art Gallery is sublime. Try the Riverside Markets Kowhai Park also, is a fantastic spot for young and old, to play and picnic. Easy to get around the city.

A bit off the normal tourist track - but well worth the stop over. Great coffee and toasties at Franks restaurant. Lovely Main Street to look at the shops. A large variety of antique shops. The river is very nice to walk along as well.

The Whanganui Museum and the Sergeant Gallery are both worthy of extended visits, they are a highlight for any visitor to the area. The small arts and crafts galleries are interesting and innovative; some very fine and quirky cafes enrich the experience - for any visitor, Whanganui is now one of the most satisfying cultural locations in NZ.
