It's worth the drive from Lisbon, though I must admit it is quite a long drive. But the place is a surprise, a hidden gem, that needs to be experienced. A 2-night stay in this charming medieval village is the minimum. We stayed at Dom Dinis, overlooking the valley below, in December 2023. Hardly any tourists, wonderfully friendly area. Be sure to visit the church (Igreja de Santiago) of which Saramago wrote on his journey around Portugal! Hotel is located on the top of a hill with fantastic views. Parking is ok, with a short walk to the front of the hotel. There are narrow streets, uneven cobbles and steps which is the character of the town. Rooms were clean and tidy, very quiet. Restaurant staff were engaging, food was great and served well.
