William the manager speaks english and french. He is very reactive and helpful. The food was nice but above the place whre the lodge stands is perfect. On the lake shore with a sublime view on the volcanos for the sunset and the sunrise. A small piece of paradise. Highly recommended!

Ruhondo island retreat was fantastic - both in terms of natural beauty and as a gateway to many local community experiences around lake Ruhondo. Jean was amazing and led us on a hike and community visit - he shared awesome info about the area where he was born. The tents were awesome - with great hot water showers. The food was also excellent, the chef Elias did a great job! I would recommend visiting lake Ruhondo , and the retreat, as an alternative to lake Kivu.

The staff are AMAZING! So friendly - above and beyond. The room is simple and clean, the beds were comfortable. I felt safe. The location is really central if you like to explore the bustling town. We walked to 2 excellent restaurants within 5 minutes. They accommodated us with an early breakfast when we were trekking and a packed lunch for purchase. Amazing samosas. Amazing cosy place, a heaven surrounded by beautiful birds and green. amazing staff, a heartful welcome and such a quiet and relaxing place! Feeling like being part of the family! A few miles away from the Virunga national park and its many wonders. The staff will do its utmost to make you feel comfortable and find the best tour for you. The house keeper Chance is such a gem, she is so caring and kind, cannot thank her enough for the great care and arrangements she made for my visits. No need to go to these expensive lodges around, this is the place!
