An old provincial town nestled in a valley between forested...
An old provincial town nestled in a valley between forested hills. Although only a few streets of older houses remain, it has a special significance in the country's cultural history, with a good ethnographic museum that looks dilapidated from the outside but is excellent inside. To the south-east is an open-air country life museum, which looked promising although there wasn't enough time to visit it. Nearby to the west is the country's first Via Ferrata, an excellent challenge requiring about 2-3 hours to climb up, plus the return walk down. What a brilliant place to visit and even nicer people!!
What a brilliant place to visit and even nicer people!! I hope I will continue to return for many more years and that I can find the time to stay longer in a future visit. The central town plaza is clean and pleasant with a wide variety of shops and places to eat. There are often public events that add to the strong sense of community. Public transport also acceptable, but access the city by car is preferable due to reach good hiking starting points easier.
