It's a tiny town with fewer restaurants to choose from...
It's a tiny town with fewer restaurants to choose from comparing to HuaLiang which is 18KM south of XinCheng. But, this town is also 18 KM closer to Taroko National Park. Even though he did not speak English, communication was easy via google translate. He showed a lot of attention to detail and even invited us for some snacks. The room was spacious and clean and there was a common room with a laundry machine and some complimentary tea and coffee. The building is a normal taiwanese residential building, not a hotel, so the windows and insulation are taiwanese standard. Xincheng has a real village feel. It is also closer to Taroko Gorge, with buses and scooter rental at the train station. Xincheng also has a big deserted beach to go for a stroll. The 310 buses into Taroko Gorge stop there so this is a great place if you are going to the Gorge. The staff were very friendly and for a rural hotel the cleanliness and facilities were good. Decor was interesting and colorful. Lovely little hotel cat! We stayed here the night of the Hualien earthquake and despite this the staff carried on with a smile.
