It is an excellent location for other activities on the island. Friendly staff and nice meals. Only a few mosquitos. The vibes of the area are fantastic, and the bungalows near the water have a romantic feeling.

Emerald Bay Resort - a relaxed casual intimate resort hidden away from view at the southern tip of Pemba Island - an absolute paradise. The rooms are comfortable with a spacious bathroom and excellent hot water shower. There is a good size swimming pool set in beautiful landscaped gardens - a ideal place to spend a lazy afternoon! All dining is on the roof top terrace - dinners are delicious with lots of fresh seafood caught locally. All the usual breakfast foods available plus GREAT pancakes and local doughnuts! All staff absolutely super friendly and helpful. We were met by Luca who hosted us throughout our stay and we were warmly welcomed into the Emerald Bay family. Luca took us out on the boat (dhow) each day to the amazing pristine white sand banks and turquoise warm sea - totally magical and relaxing. Emerald Bay is truly a genuinely special place, out of the tourist hot spots and absolutely in tune with nature and the location. We loved our stay. Thank you to Luca and Raphael for creating the perfect finale to our East African adventure.

The place is natural, quiet and unpretentious.

The place is natural, quiet and unpretentious. It does not invade the environment, and does not give the feel of wanting to make money out of you. It is very small - a capacity of 12 beds only - and so the sense of peace and harmony with the environment is deep. A rare find which I will return to. You need to be prepared to walk a little way to the lodge if the tides are low, and you need to be a nature lover. We had 2 brilliant snorkelling trips - other ventures are offered. The food was delicious - beautifully prepared, yet simple. Most of it is drawn from the island itself and is fantastically healthy stuff. I was a single traveler, and recommend this for singles. Not for you if you're a sophisticated traveler.
