Simply love this place! Everyone in the staff help you get the best experience on mafia island. They arrange great tours that we really enjoyed. Best experience by far was the whale shark snorkeling. The place is small with few bungalows which make the place really friendly where everyone says hello to each other. The location is also great close to the beach and Kilindoni and the airport. Theres a bar and smaller restaurant which serves great food. Really recommend this place!

The pics don’t show just how lovely this hotel is…the gardens are beautiful, rooms are bright and spacious, huge bed, fridge etc all set around the pool & garden. Also ate lunch / dinner every day and the food is excellent / octopus in coconut sauce was a fave! and it’s a good varied menu so plenty of choice. WiFi and power both consistent, wifi reached the rooms, staff are great. Literally 3mins drive from airport…very good option if staying this side of the island. Highly recommended!

I can not put in words how much I loved this place and the amount of gratitude I have for the manager. It’s a beautiful serene place with a beautiful pool area and delicious food as well as great apartments. The people working here are super friendly, beyond kind and helpful. Even during a medical emergency they remained calm and supportive.

Everything was great. Great location. Great staff, 10+ points to staff. Good food, I don't remember Chef's name, but after the kitchen is closed, he will entertain you aswell. If you want anything, just ask Hassan the supervisor and he will make it happen. Talk with Omi the bartender, he's a great guy. Also Mudi and Ubi, 2 super guys. If you want to relax!?... Ooh, this is the place for you in Mafia Island.

The location itself is very nice, staff and owners are very friendly, the whaleshark tour was good (the weather was bad and we didn't see whalesharks but they really tried their best).

Ally was extremely helpful from the moment we booked accommodation online. He was not only very responsive via WhatsApp but also gave us the right contact to organise a ferry ride to Mafia Island. We arrived at the homestay after 11pm but Ally and the housekeeper, Bunda, were there to welcome us nonetheless. The homestay is very simple but it was clean and comfortable with water and electricity at all times. Despite the heat in November, the powerful fan kept our room cool and kept mosquitoes away at night and we always had a good night’s sleep. Bunda made us a great breakfast every morning that kept us full most of the day, and he always cooked early for us so that we could eat before going out to explore the island. Ally helped us organise many activities very easily, such as snorkelling in Chole Bay and hiring a motorbike (boda boda) for the day to drive to the north of the island. The location of the homestay was perfect to have a more local experience as it is a short walk to the local town and market where we ate an affordable dinner every evening, but also walking distance from the beach (outside the marine park). Ally and Bunda’s kindness and hospitality were the highlight of our stay and we are very grateful to have felt so welcome there. Overall, we would highly recommend Mgeni Homestay to anyone looking to explore Mafia Island on a backpacker’s budget and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Lovely small property with very personal service, really great standard of accommodation, big room, great shower, nice pool, extremely accommodating staff. Excellent overall. Dive equipment is new and dive service also excellent.
