Burns is the gateway to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge...
Burns is the gateway to the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, why we visited. The Refuge is enormous and can't be visited in one day, so you'll need accommodations to have an in-depth visit. It is certainly worth it.
The town has a cute Old West downtown that's fun, but the big attraction is the Wildlife Refuge.

The staff was the best.
The staff was the best. The motel is run down dirty carpet breeze way totally nasty parking lot tore up sidewalks need replaced. Room had an aweful smell we actually had to go buy a freebreeze plug in to make it through the two nights I have never stayed in a motel as run down in my life.

I liked the town. Utterly American.
I liked the town. Utterly American. Farms and ranches, some many thousands of acres, define its character. I had to slow-drive through a dozen deer just wandering a neighborhood street. Every service person I dealt with was friendly. Dining options limited but, hey, it's a small town.

I only spent the night there so I don't know much.
I only spent the night there so I don't know much. This is a small Oregon town with some old interesting architecture but also good amenities like a big Safeway and several restaurants. It was easy to navigate around town.

Burns appeared to be a depressing little town.
Burns appeared to be a depressing little town. We were there on a Tuesday night and Wednesday morning while passing through. At 8:00 pm Tuesday night we couldn't find any place to eat dinner that wasn't a bar. The next morning we had to back track a couple miles to find a breakfast place, again most places were closed. Also the downtown area is scary after dark.
Would not recommend.

Motel was old and run down they say they were doing remo mod did not see any of that in my room got there late after 9 PM left at 10 AM as soon as I could head to get back on the road curtains were see-through the air-conditioning was in the back of the room and it was a 110 unit the door to the unit could’ve been reinforced other than that it was a good place to put your head down and get the hell out
