Oceanside is a growing city along the ocean with many restaurants etc. It's very walkable if you are in the downtown area. There is plenty to do but if it's not your vibe, there are many nearby places to entertain yourself. Close to ocean, mountains, desert, casinos, Legoland, Disneyland, and San Diego places such as zoo, Balboa Park, or Seaworld. We loved the cllimate.
We loved the cllimate. The sea air was refreshing compared to the 95 degree heat we left behind in San Fernando Valley. The town definitely has a military feel to it due to its proximity to Camp Pendleton. God Bless our troops! Mission San Luis Rey was fascinating. Excellent choice for a family or two.
Excellent choice for a family or two. We stayed with two families of 5 (10 people total) and this was a much better option compared to booking several hotel rooms with children. A sleepy little beach community that retains some of the charm of the past. Really affordable for vacation with lots of dining options at all price points. Also lots of lodging options at all price points. The beach is great, easily accessible with lots of paid lot and street parking. Relatively clean beach, with plenty of restrooms. Chairs & umbrellas, etc for rent if you don't bring your own. Fun to watch the surfers and people watch on the beach or the Strand. A very walkable city. Easy to access the Coaster train for trips to other beach cities or San Diego. Great public art, breweries and shops. A few favorite restaurants are Cosmos Burgers, Best Pizza & Brew, Harney Oceanside (sushi), Senor Grubby's (tacos). Favorite brewpubs, Stone and Green Cheek. He said he cannot fix it, then he promised to give me discount on my room and he did not apply any discount. Room AC was working ok but it was not able to make room completely cold. Breakfast was horrible. It had some cheap great value tea bags.
