It has a great vibe, busy without being overwhelming, a nice little promenade and park along the Mekong and a pretty good dining and street food scene. There were some Westerners, but it felt completely untouristy. Small town.
Small town. No Grab service in Chau Doc. went to Tra Su cajuput forest by Taxi, in a remote area and hard to get transportation to the forest, taxi driver waited ( I didn't ask him to wait) he wanted to make more money with the return to town trip. I fell sick shortly before we arrived so the trip to Chau Doc itself was not as imagined but both women took such great care of me, supplying me with tea, fruits, soup and crackers and everything else I needed. We could without any problems extend our stay on a short notice and Vi was even kind enough to call the bus agency and change our departure. She picked me up at bus station, and offered me some food as I arrived quite late in the evening. The morning after, she had already booked a taxi for me to go to the pier and supplied me with a take away breakfast as I was leaving early.
