As reluctant as I was to spend what I consider a lot of money even though it was for my Wife’s 70th 😊I now have to say it was money so well spent. The accommodation, food and staff were top class. What was there not to like? The only thing that comes to mind is having to leave ☹. A big shout out to Kevin, an excellent butler who was consistently friendly, professional, and willing to help….and always remembered our drinks of choice. Of course, the main purpose for us was to see wild animals in their natural habitat and this we did on every drive with the expert skills of Herbert(tracker) and Julian (Driver/Ranger). The passion and skill set that Herbert and Julian demonstrated on all our drives was exemplary. Seeing leopards, cheetah, rhinos, zebra, giraffe, elephants, wart hog, packs of wild dogs etc up close was so special. Topped in some way by the excitement that Julian showed when we saw a lynx on a cheetah kill. Julian was full of useful information about all the animals we saw. His passion for his work was obvious. How Herbert spotted a camouflaged leopard on a termite mount at 80-100m while we could hardly see it using quality binoculars or seeing a 2-inch green chameleon in a green leafed bush in the dark by torch light amazed us. The drives were excellent. We liked what appears to be the self-imposed rule of only 2 safari jeeps on any animal sighting at one time with others hanging back and waiting their turn, thus avoiding a free for all, which I’m led to believe happens in the main Kruger Park. We also liked the interaction between ‘competing’ lodges whereby they constantly updated each other about current animal sightings.

Everything was perfect and high quality. Accommodation was very nice and comfortable, bed was amazing. Staff were very very friendly and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing and they really go out of their way to make the experience unforgettable. We had lunch and dinners in various settings. The gym is small but well equipped. Massages were amazing and the game drives were fun and comfy.

Our stay at the beautiful Last Word Kitara was truly special. The lodge is set in a peaceful, breathtaking environment where you can completely immerse yourself in nature. The rooms are spacious, perfectly clean, and come with a beautiful balcony — the ideal spot to unwind between game drives. The food was outstanding throughout our stay. Every meal was delicious, and the attention to detail was impressive — the table was always beautifully set, with a different and thoughtful arrangement each time, which made every dining experience feel unique and personal. The staff were incredibly kind, professional, and always helpful. Everyone made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for, and their warmth added so much to our overall experience. A heartfelt thank you to our amazing guide Matt and tracker Patrick. We were lucky enough to see the Big Five all in one day, which was truly unforgettable. What really stood out was Matt’s genuine passion for animals — whether it was birds or big cats, his enthusiasm was contagious and made every sighting even more exciting. I particularly enjoyed watching how he and Patrick tracked the animals — carefully reading signs, interpreting tracks, and slowly piecing together where the wildlife might be. Being part of that process made each drive feel like a real adventure. This was such a wonderful way to celebrate my graduation. A hotel in the middle of the wilderness. At least once in a lifetime I recommend to switch off and go on a quality safari, to experience the peace and sounds of nature. This hotel is perfect! The service is top notch and everyone is nice. Our guide Elvys was great and we saw all the animals in 5 days. Thank you so much for a great experience, I believe I will be back.

Marius and Erik were the best guides. We learnt so much from them in the walking safari. The staff is lovely. The retreat is divine and has a lovely relaxing area both by the pool and in a veranda. I'd highly recommend you stay here for one night before checking in at their private game reserve for more game drives.
