Forest-filled Guyana is situated on the northeast coast of South America but still distinctly Caribbean. The country is divided into the coastal plains of capital Georgetown, Bartica and Mabaruma, and the highlands of Lethem and Paramakatoi. Guyana showcases some impressive natural sights, such as Kaieteur Falls – five times the height of Niagara Falls at 250 metres tall. The area around Mount Ayanganna is accessible to climbers of all abilities and also features scenic hiking routes passing by waterfalls and wildlife. Shell Beach is a beautiful conservation area where you can observe endangered leatherback, green and olive ridley turtles laying eggs along the 145-km stretch of sand.
