Hlane Royal National Park is the largest and most popular for wildlife safaris. Go on a guided bushwalk in the park’s northern area for the chance to spot lions, elephants, giraffes and white rhinos. Or go hiking in the Mlawula Nature Reserve, backed by the Lubombo Mountains and home to over 350 bird species. All that said, the appeal of this intriguing country does not solely rest with its natural beauty. Swaziland also boasts a lively and colourful culture that visitors can easily get involved with. Small events can be found across the country at almost any time of year, but to see Swazi culture at its most brilliant, go for ‘Umhlanga’. This annual ceremony, which translates to ‘Reed Dance’, sees tens of thousands of unmarried Swazi women gather and dance for the Queen Mother in Ludzidzini Royal Village. The range of accommodation in Swaziland consists mainly of guesthouses, B&Bs and small hotels. The majority are located in and around Mbabane, the Swazi capital, though some bigger resorts can be found near the national parks.
