We had a beautiful room at the Palazzo overlooking Lake Maggiore. The design of the whole hotel was fabulous and everything we ate - breakfast, dinner, snacks - were all amazing. Expensive but worth it!

The hotel is beautiful. We are hungry cyclists and loved the breakfast as we could fuel well :-). The staff are excellent, professional and helpful. We got a comp upgrade to lake view room which we appreciated HUGE amounts. We used the leisure facilities every day and they are top notch. The area is perfect as we got the ferry to the borromean islands and had good walks around town to eat out every night. It was a fantastic trip for my wife's milestone birthday. We would definitely go back. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

Location is very good in The middle of Stresa. Italian style of living, great! Appartmemt was clean and beatiful. We can really recommend.

Hotel Splendid is aptly named. A hotel full of old world charm and attentive staff that will ensure you have a pleasant stay. I was on a road trip travelling with friends and its location, reputation and the fact that it has secure underground car parking available was a deciding factor in its selection. Others have complained about the €19 extra charge for the car parking but it wasn't unexpected and it gave me peace of mind and a good night's sleep knowing my car was safe. Check in staff were warm and welcoming and the hotel itself exudes an old world charm. Hotel Splendid is one of the very few hotels in Baveno that is on the shore of Lake Maggiore with it's own private beach and dock for boats. The terrace outside is a perfect location to sit and have a drink whilst watching the world go by. The bedroom furnishings are in keeping with the grandeur of days gone by adding to the overall ambience of the hotel. The bedroom was large, well appointed and spotlessly clean - with temperatures outside hitting 34c during the day and 25c at night efficient air-conditioning was very welcome. Breakfast was very good - a self serve buffet with a big selection of meats, cheeses, croissants, fruit, pastries, cake and cereals. I especially liked the fresh honeycomb which is not often seen these day's. Evening meals and wines were superb with a varied selection on offer. Everything was cooked to perfection and served by attentive waiters and waitresses. Wanting to explore the palaces on nearby islands we took the hotels advice and booked a private water taxi. For €100 the water taxi picked us up at the hotel and transported 6 of us to the three islands we wanted to visit - dropping us off and returning to pick us up when we made the phone call. The skipper also made a good recommendation on where to take lunch on 'the restaurant island'. That the Hotel Splendid is only rated as a 4* hotel is a surprise - for me it deserves a 5* rating.

I loved the swimming pool. We also had a great view from our balcony over the garden with the pool towards the lake and the mountains. If you don't like big and expensive breakfasts, you can go to the pool bar after 9 AM and get some coffee and a croissant there.

Lovely boutique hotel in gorgeous location on Lake Maggiore. Loved the view of the lake from our lake-view suite. Suite was a very good value. Hotel rooms are bright, fresh, clean, and well-appointed. Comfortable beds. Air-conditioning worked great. The bathroom was large (for Europe) and very nicely done. Good lighting. Breakfast was good—all you would expect in a European continental breakfast. Eggs made any way you want upon request. Espresso drinks also made upon request. Hotel staff were gracious and helpful. Wonderful stay!

It was a unique experience, the place, and everything was beyond expectations. This place was the highlight on our trip. We booked this hotel without knowing anything about the place or the area, and it was the best decision we've made.
