Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. Price quality is excellent. Japanese breakfast in the morning is nice, with various dishes prepared. The room itself was large and spacious. There is ample place to park your car, but train station is also in walking distance.

We are very happy to stay at a really Japanese hotel, and experience Japanese culture. All the staff there are so helpful and wonderful. Everyone can communicate with the guests very well. Free WiFi is available at the lobby and guestrooms. This hotel was selected as one of the Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Japan by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2015. An incredible location, nearby all the most important attractions, with a great view to Miyagawa river. Although it is shared bathroom, it feels very private and calm. The family that owns the ryokan is friendly, thoughtful and welcoming.

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Guests can request relaxing massage treatments or soak in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, which are made of rocks and cypress wood. The food - breakfast and dinner - was amazing.

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. It has a hot public bath, and Japanese meals are available for a fee. Great location, wonderful staff, best experience in a shared dormitory, as it felt very private with the separating curtains. It was also very quiet and all guests considerate.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. The hotel is located in the center of Takayama city, and there are many restaurants around. The Japanese-style accommodation offers spacious public baths. No meals are provided, but bread and soup are provided as light meals in the room. Free parking is provided on site. A traditional Ryokan near the Takayama station, many restaurants and 10 min walk to the old town which makes it very convenient. The room was spacious and clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly, the common area gave you the japanese vibe you’re looking for in a place like Takayama, they have Onsen (Public Baths) but I did not use it, would stay there again.

JR Takayama Station is located a 3-minute walk away. Had a great stay with my two kids. Spacious room, and a fantastic onsen, both indoor and outdoor, which we used every day on our stay. One of our best stays on our holiday in Japan. The complimentary evening ramen was also great.

Each simple and compact room at Super Hotel Hida Takayama comes with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge. A tea set and an air purifier are also included. The en suite bathroom has a bath tub and free toiletries. The hotel had onsen with public baths. It was quite neat and clean. Excellent location near Jr station or bus station and a short 5-10 min walk across the river to the old takayama town with tourist things. The bathroom was small (but neat and clean) but we anyways instead used onsen to take bath. The breakfast was just decent and didn't live up to the good reviews we read on booking.com. Just outside the hotel, there is a small cafe run by an old Japanese lady. We loved our coffee and deserts there. Would recommend it if you crave good coffee after the breakfast buffet (it has machine coffee).

Location was super and the room size was great. Wonderful onsen as well.
