Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. Absolutely amazing! Our best experience in Japan! The ryokan is so well let and well decorated, and everyone was very accommodating and kind. The onsen was also great and breakfast was delicious. I would come to Takayama again just for the chance to stay here again.

The hosts were fabulous, so friendly and helpful, and the breakfast (and dinner) were amazing!

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Guests can request relaxing massage treatments or soak in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, which are made of rocks and cypress wood. The location is the best, close to station and old town area. The food is great. and staffs very helpful

Authentic Japanese set meals are served for breakfast and dinner. This was probably our favourite accommodation during our entire trip in Japan. Not only was takayama itself beautiful to travel to by train but the hospitality at Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan was amazing and I would definitely return here when I come to Takayama next. Would definitely recommend the traditional meal experience as well! They will also pick you up/drop you off at the train station as well for no extra cost!

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. It has a hot public bath, and Japanese meals are available for a fee. Magome Chaya is very well located along the Nagasendo trail in Magome. Magome is generally a very cute little town. The food was amazing, the satff super friendly, and facilities very clean. 10/10.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. The hotel is located in the center of Takayama city, and there are many restaurants around. The Japanese-style accommodation offers spacious public baths. No meals are provided, but bread and soup are provided as light meals in the room. Free parking is provided on site. Super nice ryokan in Takayama. It probably needs some updating, but it is still a place i would recommend. Rooms are big and you sleep in futons, but on mattresses! (Unlike other traditional japanese guesthouses...). The bath is clean and super nice.

JR Takayama Station is located a 3-minute walk away. Had a great stay with my two kids. Spacious room, and a fantastic onsen, both indoor and outdoor, which we used every day on our stay. One of our best stays on our holiday in Japan. The complimentary evening ramen was also great.

Each simple and compact room at Super Hotel Hida Takayama comes with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and a fridge. A tea set and an air purifier are also included. The en suite bathroom has a bath tub and free toiletries. Nice and clean. Room is optimized for space but has everything. The Japanese-style breakfast was superb. Location is convenient and staff went above and beyond. No complaints!

The kaiseki (dinner) and the japanese breakfast were very traditional and plentiful. The staff is super gentle and helpful.
