We had the pleasure of spending several nights at Thulamela Couples Retreat before heading off to the Kruger National Park, and we could not have chosen a better place to begin our journey. First of all, our heartfelt thanks to our wonderful host Penny. With her warm and caring nature, she made us feel truly at home from the very first moment. She not only provided us with a beautiful retreat to relax in but also shared many valuable tips for our time in Hazyview and in Kruger. Thanks to her, we were able to experience the area in the best possible way. At Thulamela we enjoyed a very private and peaceful atmosphere, nestled in a small forest – the perfect setting for a romantic getaway. Our cottage felt like our own little haven in nature, complete with a terrace, private hot tub, and a braai (barbecue) area. Everything was designed and maintained with so much love and attention to detail, which made our stay even more special. From the retreat, we explored the highlights of the Panorama Route, guided by Penny’s excellent recommendations. Her advice ensured that we not only saw the must-visit spots but also enjoyed great food at the right places along the way. Our time at Thulamela was so wonderful that after our Kruger adventure, we changed our travel plans just so we could return for one last night before heading back to the airport. We are deeply grateful for the hospitality and unforgettable memories. Thulamela is truly a gem, and we can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, private, and romantic escape.

Before we reach the hotel, we drive through the avocado and macadamia plantation that belongs to the estate. Upon arrival, Tracey, the owner of Highgrove House, is waiting for us for a warm welcome, refreshing towels and a welcome drink. Tracey passionately talks about the history of the family business and shows us the beautiful gardens and main building. You imagine yourself in a bygone era. We notice that attention to detail will be the guiding principle for our stay here when we receive a tour and are escorted to our suite. Literally everything has been thought of. Over the past few days we have been spoiled culinary and we have really enjoyed the peace and nature. Nothing was too much for the team of Highgrove. We wished we could have stayed longer. We’ll be back!

Everything. This must be the best guesthouse in all of Hazyview. I thoroughly enjoyed everything, the host, the staff, the excellent breakfast, the views, the music of the cicadas, the room and my restful sleep, the peace and tranquility. I will definitely be back. It was fantastic.

A guesthouse with a personal touch making you feel at home and yet has the comfort of a hotel. Breakfast is very good and is served at a certain time but when we went for an early game drive Isabel was flexible to adjust our breakfast time and even offered to pack some food if we had gone earlier than 7am. We also appreciated we were able to borrow a good book with lots of animal info of Kruger Park with detailed maps. Very friendly and hospitable hostess. The location is outstanding. Very close to a lot of good restaurants and supermarket. Highly recommendable.

The room was new and comfortable, views from the facilities were really nice, the location is great to access the Kruger National Park, and very easy to access from Mpumalanga Airport. All people extremely friendly and helpful.
