Sumatra Expedition Lodge is a recently renovated guest house in Bukit Lawang, where guests can make the most of its garden and bar. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. Guests can make use of the children's playground or the picnic area, or enjoy views of the mountain and river. We had the best time at Sumatra expedition lodge. The room was spacious, clean and had air con and a fan. The family were lovely and the workers were so friendly and helpful. We had amazing meals at the lodge (our favourite the tempeh rengdeng). We also did a jungle trek organised by the lodge. We had the most incredible day with our tour guide Oman and his helper Onkey (sorry if wrong spelling). Oman was so great with 20 plus years of experience in the jungle he was so knowledgeable and we saw so much beautiful jungle and wildlife. He also deeply cared about the environment and was a great advocate for animal wellbeing and safety. We were fortunate enough to see lots of monkeys and observe the orangutan’s up close. Definitely recommend 10/10

I had a really nice stay and trekking (2D1N) with Jhony and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a jungle trek in Bukit Lawang. He arranged and took care of everything (pick-up to drop-off, even brought me to ATM and simcard shop with his scooter, all meals included on trekking). He has a very competitive price - the guesthouse is modest, but has everything you need and what you pay for (it is a jungle experience after all so no extra luxury). What is most important is his genuine love for the jungle and the authenticity of his job as a guide. He has many years of experience and built up his own guesthouse - nothing beats supporting true locals!

Property was clean and overlooked the river view. My stay was excellent, and I also booked the jungle trek with them. It was absolutely amazing, and it was their own business. So it was a small group. Ricky and Anto were great with taking care of us. You should really try this activity! It’s very very worth it, and rest assured you are in good hands.

There is a private entrance at the guest house for the convenience of those who stay. The rooms are fitted with a balcony with garden views and free WiFi. Gotong Rotong bus station and convenience store are located about 10 to 15 mins away by foot. The quiet villa with nice ambience is tucked away from town. Padi fields just a few minutes walk from the villa. Tyson, Dedek and team are super friendly. Their dog Balu is a charm. They are able to organize trips to the jungle, Tangkahan, transport and etc. It's like a one-stop villa for everything. The room is of good size and bed is very comfortable. Restaurant in the villa serves good food. (One can always replenish drinking water in the restaurant.) There is no need to walk out for meals. In any case, not much choices available near the villa unless one goes to Bukit Lawang. Bukit Lawang town is 20 minutes walk from the villa walking pass local residences. If not, one can take a motorbike to the town. The jungle trek organized by Tyson comes with a friendly and knowledagble guide and assistant. Saw 2 orangutans during the trek and also a few monkeys. Trek is tough and it's goes uphill and downhill. One ought to be fairly fit. Highly recommend Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa.

The whole place is a 10/10 and the food on the premises is delicious😋😋😋 We would like to give a big thank-you to Putri for the great communication from the date we booked and throughout our stay and to Nani for always greeting us daily at the reception/restaurant area with her genuine smile. “Big SHOUT OUT to Jack and Rico for being excellent guides during our two day jungle trekking…..and of course a big thank you to Junet our amazing taxi driver who picked us up at the airport and at the end of our stay drove us to lake Toba in the most professional way possible🙏🙏😊😘🦧

The units will provide guests with a wardrobe and a kettle. The owners Yuyun and Borja see hundreds of tourists every year but have the gift of making everyone feel special. Location, facilities and food were excellent. Breakfast and dinner at La Boca Chica restaurant, which is part of SeaGate, were the best part of our day.
