I'm Australian and visited during the low season and had the most incredible stay — it honestly felt like this family had a magic wand hidden somewhere. Every little problem I brought with me, they solved with such kindness and ease. From helping me get tailored clothes made, to fixing the screen on my phone, to preparing the most delicious meals, to even arranging a local traveler to accompany me to the ghats — they thought of everything. Mohit’s wife cooks the most amazing food, with a huge variety of delicious home-style Indian dishes. I probably ate 70% of my meals here, and every bite was a treat! As a solo woman traveler, I felt completely safe and cared for. When I ran into trouble with a bad Uber driver, they stepped in right away and sorted it out without hesitation. Whatever was on my to-do list, they somehow made it happen. Their home is full of warmth, laughter, and the sweetest little girls you’ll instantly fall in love with. Mohit’s mother also carries such wisdom and clarity in her words that, even when she spoke in Hindi, I found myself understanding. They’re wonderfully creative too — they hand painted uplifting murals to brighten the walls, from a cute panda to a serene Buddha, and they’ve even made cozy seats out of recycled tyre wheels. In the evenings, the open terrace is the perfect place to sit, while doves that have been nesting there for over five years coo gently in the background. The family also runs a small shop, so snacks and drinks are always within easy reach. Compared to the bustle of the city, this place is peaceful and quiet, yet still just a short walk from the Buddhist temples in Sarnath. The rooms are comfortable, with options to suit everyone — from dorms to single rooms and larger family spaces. Truly, this is the BEST place I have ever stayed. For us Ashirvad Homestay was a welcoming and quiet refuge in an otherwise chaotic city. The location, a bit removed from the clutter near the river, is in an almost rural setting across the road from a park. Aman, the manager, was exceptionally helpful, changing money, arranging an airport transfer, setting up aboat trip and on Day One, negotiating a tuk-tuk for us. Trust me, if you do any of these activities, let Aman set them up for you.

Located in Rishīkesh, Crescent Moon Homestay offers accommodation with a terrace and kitchen. There is a private entrance at the guest house for the convenience of those who stay. Mansa Devi Temple is 35 km from the guest house and Parmarth Niketan Ashram is 2.5 km away. Very nice guesthouse near Laxman Jhula but away from the crowds. I really enjoyed staying at Pooja’s homestay. It was clean & room was large, cozy, and I slept very well. Nice kitchen too. It is high up the bit steep hill from downtown, & I enjoyed the walk there to escape the noise & go to town when desired. It felt safe at night too, in a cute local neighborhood. Pooja is sweet and helpful, and it’s a nice independent stay.
