Very beautifully renovated old house and one of the kindest hosts I have ever met. There is also a great footbath and a bathtub with Onsen water, I definitely want to come here again.

Tajima San prepares every morning a breakfast for us. He is very friendly and gave us good tips for restaurants and a local onsen in the forest. We enjoyed the home stay experience and the chance to chat with Tajima San.

This is very close to the airport (if you have a rental car) and is tucked away in a valley all by itself. We had room 7 facing the forest and we really enjoyed our stay. We found the owner to very friendly and we were able to have some good times there chatting with her. This is a simple husband and wife business and is not high end. The onsen is hot, which is great. There’s only about 10 cabins which is nice. It was very peaceful. We used this as a launch pad to other places and onsens in the kirishima area too.

The guesthouse is very lovely and interesting. On the second floor beneath it is a gallery and on the first floor there is a café. All of them with their unique artsy decoration and atmosphere. The guesthouse is right next to a small beach in a less busy part of Kagoshima with a fantastic view of the Sakurajima volcano. We were able to watch a small live eruption for breakfast! Also, the staff is super nice and went out of their way to help us out on several occasions. All in all we were super happy with Carapan Guesthouse and warmly recommend staying here.

Couldn’t rate the place high enough. Make sure you stay here. It’s basic but in the best way. You get everything you need and have the best time. The owner is the nicest most helpful person. Good location, 15 minutes walk from the port or a quick bus trip. Bike rental cheaper than others on the island. Stay here!!!!
