Sarah, George, Nader, they were all sweet, helpful, always smiling at you and making you feel at home. I had stayed the first days at 4-star hotels in Cairo and Luxor, but only felt that I was really in Cairo at this hostel. The room had a dusty balcony overlooking another old amazing building and the room was very basic, but cozy . The hostel terrace should be a tourist attraction in its own right. Good Egyptian breakfast: pita bread, feta cheese, tomatoes, falafel, coffee. Sarah even gave me the hotel card and told me to call them should I need their help navigating the streets of Cairo. The elevator may look scary, but works perfectly.

I’m currently traveling around Egypt, and I keep recommending Villa Layla to everyone I meet, I want others to feel this magic too. Honestly, I’m now thinking of changing my travel plans just so I can come back and spend one more night there before my flight. That’s how much I loved it.
