In a prime location in the Yudanaka Onsen district, this hostel offers ski-to-door access, as well as a hot spring bath. The property is non-smoking and is set 10 km from Ryuoo Ski Park. It was a great experience for me and my family. The house is a typical Japanese house with Japanese garden and Japanese style of furniture and bedding. My kids loved staying here. It gave them a whole Japanese experience in which a hotel could not provide. It's extremely clean and organized. The host is very caring and welcoming. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Matsumoto
All rooms in the hostel are fitted with a coffee machine. Couch Potato Hostel offers some rooms that have a safety deposit box, and the rooms include a shared bathroom with a bidet and a hairdryer. All units will provide guests with a fridge. This hostel is so lovely, one of my favourites so far. It's in an old building which is beautiful and a short walk from the railway station and the castle. The women's dorm is only four people so nice and small. You have traditional futon mattresses on a mat floor and curtains around your area. The washing machine is free to use, there are free bikes, free tea and coffee. The staff are lovely. I really wanted to come back again but they were fully booked unsurprisingly!

My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience. The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

This 1-star hostel offers a shared kitchen, a concierge service and free WiFi. The property is non-smoking and is set 14 km from Zenkoji Temple. I really loved my stay at Guest House Kura. Firstly the beds were really comfortable. It was lovely to have a heated blanket on my bed. The duvet was really comfortable and the room felt very cosy. Although there is only one bathroom and toilet, I never had to wait to use any of the facilities and they were always clean. You can purchase food and drinks at Guest House Kura and they have lots of recommendations of where to eat and drink locally. Tassei even organised for vegan bento boxes to be delivered to Guest House for us after our long day visiting the snow monkeys. This was such a kind gesture and he was always very acommodating of all of our needs. He even drove me to a local onsen and picked me back up afterwards. There is a Lawson’s a few minutes walk away and Suzaka station is just over a 15 minute walk. It was a great location to visit the snow monkeys from and the staff will give you all the relevant directions you need. It was a sociable hostel and I was able to meet people easily. Although it’s sociable hostel, you can also get a very nice sleep and there is a very mixed demographic staying at the hostel as I also saw families with younger children. It’s a very small quiet town which felt like a lovely escape away from the larger Japanese cities. It’s very reasonably priced to wash and dry your clothes (400 yen for a wash and dry). There is also a kitchen space available for you to cook should you wish to. Overall I would really recommend anyone to stay at Guest House.

Best Hostel/Guesthouse ever.
Great well run hostel with large mixed capsule dormitory and some smaller private rooms right next to Nagano Station - ladies dormitory avail.
Great facilities, everything new, modern and spotlessly clean. Huge wooden bunk beds in the dorms which are much more spacious than the usual hostel dorm beds. Perfect location on a main shopping street. Helpful, friendly staff and a nice common room to meet other guests. I've stayed in a lot of hostels and this is was perhaps my favourite ever in terms of comfort.
Best bunk beds, matresses and (supersoft) bedsheets I've had during my entire stay in Japan. Very comfortable, large beds and the indoor air climate of the dorms is well controlled. Bathrooms are clean and common kitchen is well equipped. Location is perfect, close to main attractions and still only 15 mins walking from the train station (but Matsumoto is not that big anyway). The street is a pedestrian little shopping street, so very quiet at night as well. I loved my stay and would recommend this hostel to anyone going to Matsumoto.
great location. clean. friendly safe. breakfast.
I highly recommend this place if you're going to ski on a pretty low budget !!!!!! The Pilot Lodge is a comfy place, located at 10 meters from a bus stop that can bring you for free to several ski slopes in 10min, the staff is really accommodating, there is two bathes that you can use on your own and the hostel provides reductions for the ski passes and for a gear rental shop that can pick you up and bring you with your gear ! Thank you so much for everything :)
Very friendly hostel, in a great location not too far from Matsumoto castle. Rooms are Japanese style, with lots of space in the dorms. I had a large suitcase with me and there was plenty of storage space for it beside my futon! Lovely staff as well, great vibe in the hostel overall.
The room was well equipped with cheap video on demand, free WiFi, a phone, safe, kettle, amenities in the lobby such as razors & toothbrushes and the shower having both a handheld head and rainfall style was incredible. The vending machines and clothes washing facilities in the lobby were useful and the staff were very polite and nice.
The hostel is in a great location and so quiet. The staff are really helpful, but best of all you could feel the history of the place. We are a family of four (two boys aged 13 & 11) and all thought it was the best hostel we’ve stayed at - friendlier, more fun and better than many hotels. Would stay there happily again.
