IdleWild...idle a while
IdleWild's dramatic settting overlooks a nine mile beach framed by the Freycinet mountains. Seabirds swirling and diving along the rolling surf create a spellbinding, mesmerising spectacle.
Relax and unwind cocooned in the comfortable, colourful interiors. Bike ride the beach, later enjoy the cosy wood stove, glass of local wine in hand.
30 minutes to Freycinet National Park and Bicheno. 40 minutes to Maria Island Ferry and minutes to the restaurants and wineries around Swansea. The perfect base to explore East Coat Tasmania.
IdleWild and its five acres are solely yours to enjoy. Nine Mile Beach is as long as its name suggests and likely you will have it to yourself most of the time. We are dog friendly too! With a fully fenced acre around the house.
You are welcome to grab one of our bikes and take a ride along the beach…you can ride to Swansea if you like, crossing the Meredith River at low tide.
The gardens here are full of native plants and trees and are a wildlife haven..wallabies skip across the dunes at dusk, whilst you will probably not miss the possums either! It is home to innumerable birds of all sizes and shapes and colours and song.
We are based in Hobart and bought this property in January 2022 for an occasional escape. We fell head over heels with the wild majesty of its setting in a natural dune garden right on the beach. We never thought we could be so lucky as to find such a special place.
And places such as these must be shared!
Further afield (all of ten minutes in the car) try Mels Kitchen at Springvale Wines for a relaxed lunch and delicious wine.
Not forgetting to sample the wares of Gala estate just down the road.
The Waterloo Inn in Swansea is fast gaining a great reputation for it's food and the Saltshaker does great pizzas for eat in or take home to the fire.
Should you tire of the local produce or perhaps need to walk some of it off, you can drive over to the Freycinet National Park, take lunch at the Marine Farm, stroll Friendly Beaches, walk up to the Wineglass Bay Lookout or for the more adventurous scramble up to the top of Mount Amos, finishing with a drink at Freycinet Lodge overlooking Honeymoon Bay.
After your busy or maybe not so busy day, enjoy the sunset with a drink on the deck, prepare a meal in our proper cook's kitchen, turn on the lamps and light the woodfire... and let IdleWild's snug cosiness wrap you up in its warm embrace!
