Having grown up in the Barossa in the sixties and seventies I have always had a strong connection and love of the region. When Jan (my wife) and I came across this beautiful house in Julius Street Tanunda in 2015 we just fell in love with it and its perfect location in Tanunda, it was a purchase of the heart and we have carefully restored it to add modern amenities while maintaining its period features. We love living at Whiterocks ourselves from time to time as do our two daughters and their families, it’s very pleasing to be able to share Whiterocks with our guests for their exclusive pleasure during their stay to truly ‘experience Barossa’. While working in the front garden I have had the pleasure of talking with many local residents who have stopped for a chat and recount their memories of the house and its history, one local resident told me her grandparents where the original owners and builders of the house and her grandmother planted the three now magnificent crepe myrtle trees near the front gate, she was so pleased I maintained the garden in its original format as set out by her grandparents in 1935. We hope you enjoy your stay at Whiterocks
Tanunda is at the heart of the famous Barossa Valley, a region with rich clay soils and a Mediterranean climate producing some of the best shiraz in the world.
With over 160 wineries and 80 cellar doors, it’s a wine connoisseurs delight. You can experience Barossa like a local from its heart at Tanunda.
Access to some of the best wine in the world and a rich history and the mix of things for excitement and relaxation. Wineries, of course, old and new all with a great story. Shops like Wohlers, cafes, restaurants, scenic drives, breweries, a gin distillery, great local produce, chocolate and cheese factories. Great lunch spots like Z Wines, their Barossa platters are a collection of all local produce and it’s served while you taste their great wine and hear how the Zerk sisters, Janelle and Kristen, have added an award-winning winemaking business to a successful 5th-generation family grape-growing enterprise.
Fabulous restaurants like Ferment Asia a Vietnamese-style restaurant. 1918 has been around for a long time and for good reason – it’s another winner. The Tanunda and Valley pubs are good as well as the community Clubhouse. Historic churches and heritage buildings
