For my wife and I an ideal day is to walk or cycle between the lakes, then sit on our terrace or in one of the bars and restaurant of this delightful village.

Property information

Bages is a medieval fortified village overlooking sea-water lakes (‘étangs’). You are in a protected area, one of Europe’s last refuge of flamingoes and eels. On the other side of the village the vineyards begin. We provide you with a couple of bikes to discover this unique landscape. Participate in the village life and meet the fishermen who are famous for their eels, sold in nearby Narbonne, or… as far as Japan. This picturesque and romantic village is indeed located 10 km from Narbonne, a beautiful little town with ‘les halles’, an exceptional market for fresh produces fresh directly supplied by fishermen and farmers. Between the cathedral and the tree shaded canal is a busy downtown with many shops, bars and sidewalk cafés. . Within a 30 minutes drive, you will enjoy sandy beaches on the Mediterranean, great hikes, bird watching, or you can visit the UNESCO World Heritage city of Carcassonne. Do you know the wine micro-region of La Clape ? You will be forever grateful to us once you have discovered it. But Minervois, Faugères, Corbières, Roussillon are not bad either… You are in the middle of what has been called the ‘New World Wines of France’.

Bages (zip code 11100) is the village that gave its name to the Bages sea water lake (Etang de Bages), near Narbonne … It should not be confused with Bages en Roussillon (zipcode 66670) located inland. You will find in the village 4 restaurants and pubs, a grocer, boat rental, library, 2 art galleries and an old church. Car parks are free.
