HISTORY
This truly historical place built within the medieval walls of the ancient village was used over 900 years ago as a garrison room for the defenders of the wall and may have been used for the storage of ammunition and weapons after the last Saracen invasion of Provence around the 10th century. The outside walls are still over 2 metres thick which provides a welcoming cooling effect during the summer season and makes it easy to warm during the winter.
A TYPICAL PROVENCAL VILLAGE
Fayence ("Faventia Loca") was initially a place of vacation founded by the Romans who intensively occupied the region from 150BC. Remains can be found in the village and the plains below, including Roman aqueducts and wells.
The village was also known for its fine Pottery, olive and lavender oils as well as the Rosé wines. Because of its sunny climate, its sporting and cultural activities and proximity to the beautiful cities of Cannes, St-Tropez, Antibes or Monaco, it has become today a popular destination for artists, celebrities, honeymooners and tourists of all ages and nationalities.
